I was passed by one of those bikes outbound from Portland (outbound is always my favorite direction from Portland).
Four lane highway with divider, moderate traffic moving along at about 63mph. The guy was zig zagging through at about 125mph. I expected to see the splat in the short time he was visible to me.

I had forgotten about him until about 15 minutes later when I saw he had been pulled over by a motorcycle cop. They were waiting for the tow truck for the bike and the squad car for him. Dude did not look happy. Oregon has a new law making driving over 100mph a serious crime

Of course, the solution is to ban them...

Hey, we’ve got a Democratic Congress. Don’t be surprised.

Chalk up one for the cops. Surprised he didn’t just run, however. He probably would have gotten away, and wouldn’t have been in much less trouble if caught.

I build bikes but I don't ride em. At least on the street.
I ride around on trails and forest service dirt roads but never around town on Blvd or the freeway.

My latest project XS-650 Yamaha Scrambler with YZ 490 Suspension front and rear.

(Your #39)

Where's her helmet?

That's a ticket for sure.

Plus, she will have to get a ride home some other way.

“Oregon has a new law making driving over 100mph a serious crime.”

Such laws (we have a new one here in Ontario, too) are stupid. Guy decides to open up his car or bike on a deserted rural divided highway where there’s no real risk to anyone, gets radared, and is looking at a felony conviction, or huge fines, or both? We already had reckless and dangerous driving laws for situations such as you described. Still, the law is the law (even if it is an ass sometimes) and one should be aware of what it is, and the possible penalties, before deciding to flout it.

the 2006 model Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide, a touring motorcycle, produces 65 horsepower and weighs 788 pounds.

Bwhahahahahaha!

The law went into affect 9 months ago, so I forgot the details. I believe what the legislature did was to define 1oo & + mph as reckless or dangerous driving which were already on the books.

Scary quote from the article:

“Short of banning supersport and sport motorcycles from public roadways, capping the speed of these street-legal racing machines at the factory might be one way to reduce their risk.”

If you’re old enough to remember Joan Claybrook (and I am not implying you are) you’ll appreciate the gravity of this statement and its implications, namely the manufacturers and riders better clean their own house quick before the government does this for them. I’d hate to see freedom loving riders of sportbikes forced to go to Canada to acquire a version not watered down by US government regulations.

Motorcycle ridership is on the increase, with total registrations climbing 51 percent between 2000 and 2005 and contributing to the rise in motorcyclist deaths.

Why the focus on high-performance motorcycles? It would seem to me that -- all other things being equal -- the sheer increase in the number of motorcycles on the road would naturally lead to an increase in motorcycle accident deaths.

The New Sport-Bikes are great (love’em) of course their not the problem.

Lets Blame: The Crazy Congestions and Bad Roads. The Drivers like Truckers, Soccer Moms (in Suv’s with tinted windows), AA-Action babes in Kias, Illegal Immigrants in Pickups and Vans these idiots are responsible for far more the carnage on the roads.

The New Riders: Completely inexperienced riders starting out (First Bike) on Liter Class Gixxers, Ninjas, CBR-1000’s, Hyabusa’s, OMG is that Crazy Suicide. Can you say starter bike, learn on a Dirt Bike, Moped, etc… LOL, its just so America, Gotta have the biggest baddest now.

You can’t legislate this stuff, America is just full of total Morons (On Both Sides), which is why I sold my Sport-Bike and ride a Mountain Bikes now. But I miss the Bike itself...

Mine tips the Trucker’s scale at almost 900 pounds (it must be all that extra chrome & lights). I’ve never dyno’d it, but I do have the Screaming Beagle air intake & exhaust. That’s gotta be good for a hundred or so horsepower, right? ;0)

“Supersports are built on racing platforms but modified for the highway and sold to consumers.”

I wish. To bad that’s not true. I’d like to have Ducati’s GP bike for the street......not the $70,000.00 “copy” of one.

“capping the speed of these street-legal racing machines at the factory might be one way to reduce their risk.”

Or not....

All that’s really needed is a tiered licensing system like England.

Same old tired argument here..... remember when the first GSXR’s came out in the mid-late 80’s..... NBC did a few incredibly stooopid TV “specials” on how the Japs were getting back at us for WWII. “They” were killing our kids with Suzuki’s....LOL

Too funny.

“99% of the dudes that ride crotch-rockets believe the throttle is a toggle and their engines only run at 1,200 RPM or 12,000 RPM.”

Let’s see if I can top your asinine statement... let me try:

99% of the window-licking, short bus riding tards that don’t ride crotch-rockets belong in a barco-lounger with a bib tied around their necks for when the silly-straw falls out of their mouths as they watch the test pattern on TV.

Aerostitch. Or at least Draggin’ Jeans. (If not leathers.) Seriously - your story is the type my hubby tells when he says that the Road Rash is worse than the bone breaks.
