“Oregon has a new law making driving over 100mph a serious crime.”
Such laws (we have a new one here in Ontario, too) are stupid. Guy decides to open up his car or bike on a deserted rural divided highway where there’s no real risk to anyone, gets radared, and is looking at a felony conviction, or huge fines, or both? We already had reckless and dangerous driving laws for situations such as you described. Still, the law is the law (even if it is an ass sometimes) and one should be aware of what it is, and the possible penalties, before deciding to flout it.
The law went into affect 9 months ago, so I forgot the details. I believe what the legislature did was to define 1oo & + mph as reckless or dangerous driving which were already on the books.
