Tancredo Trails Top Dems by Double Digits
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 29, 2007 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 08/29/2007 9:24:15 AM PDT by Kuksool

GOP Congressman Tom Tancredo has a lot of catching up to do. The first Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey gauging support for Tancredo's long-shot presidential candidacy shows him trailing New York Senator Hillary Clinton by thirteen percentage points. He also trails Illinois Senator Barack Obama by seventeen.

The poll shows Clinton with a 50% to 37% advantage while Obama tops Tancredo 48% to 31%. Other long-shot Republicans have proved more competitive in match-ups with Clinton than Tancredo. The former First Lady has never managed double-digit leads in any Rasmussen Reports match-up between her and Sam Brownback, Mike Huckabee, or Chuck Hagel. Only Ron Paul fares worse against Clinton than Tancredo, trailing her 34% to 49% in a July survey.

Question for Frepperville - If illegal immigration is such an important issue and Tancredo is a true conservative, then why does he trail poorly against Hillary?

Because everyone has heard of Hillary.

that may be hard for some FReepers to believe

Freepers tend to overestimate their influence. Most Americans haven't even heard of FreeRepublic.

Because not everyone out there knows who Tancredo is and some ofthose who do know don’t realize his strength on this issue.

Question for you: Am I misunderstanding when I read inherent doubt about whether immigration even is a big issue?

That would seem to take a far greater leap of faith than those of us who support some of these lesser known candidates. As long as polls are the question dozens of polls seem to indicate very clearly that ILLEGAL immigration is a huge issue for the American voter.

I am not and have never been a Tancredo supporter. In fact I’ve been a critic of him. But at this point in the election process all polling is about is name recognition. Tancredo has a little higher negatives than some other 3rd tier candidates so that accounts for him trailing Brownback et,al.

Illegal immigration is a big deal among conservatives. However, among liberals and non-news junkie people, the issue is no big deal when compared to Iraqi, health care and ethics. Giuliani, the Sanctuary City Mayor, is leading in the GOP primary polls.

Most Americans haven't even heard of FreeRepublic.

No question about that. Most Americans cannot even name a single Cabinet department...or a single Supreme Court Justice...its hard to overstate how uninformed the average American is about current events and things political

Shocking Poll: Majority Of Americans Cannot Name A Single Department In The Presidents Cabinet

Rudybots or Paulettes?

My bad! Paulettes it is. I'd just come from another thread about Rudy. I carried over my thought process. Sorry.

Regarding your link. It also shows that 100% of the quoted expert pollers, (Kellyanne Conway,) misuse the word gender.

Besides, I've been playing around with firewall settings on my PC's, getting my all-in-one printer uninstalled/reinstalled because Paint Shop Pro suddenly quit recognizing the scanner function, and assorted other niceties. It's been one of those days. Oh, well, a good breakfast with the Kiwanis buddies tomorrow should straighten me out.

If illegal immigration is such an important issue and Tancredo is a true conservative, then why does he trail poorly against Hillary?

Because America is populated by socialists who want a strong federal government, government run healthcare, reduced freedoms for individuals and Islamists taking over the country?

“Maybe his “Nuke Mecca” comment didn’t sit well with the sane?

Among other verbal hand grenades this guy likes to toss about carelessly.

Spare me from soundbite politicians.”

Maybe if you bothered to find out what his actual comments were instead of accepting what he was supposed to have said, you wouldn’t think he was a soundbite politician,

‘Maybe if you bothered to find out what his actual comments were instead of accepting what he was supposed to have said, you wouldn’t think he was a soundbite politician,’

I’ve heard his evolving explanations multiple times, just like everybody else on this website.

Sorry, he lives for the camera’s glare, no different than Chuckie Schumer, if not as regular as that turd.
