Forty-Two

I turned 42 years old yesterday. There are a few ways of looking at this age. A pessimist, of course, would say that I'm already halfway to 84. On the other hand, there is some significance attached to this age. For example:

I'm twice as much fun as a 21-year-old; I'm young enough to be naughty and old enough to appreciate it. My age also happens to be the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

It isn't so bad. Except maybe when I try to get into/out of my car, chair, bed, etc. and make the same oof! sound my dad made when he was 42. That gets a little irritating. And I have noticed that the women who flirt with me older.

But to a 70- or 80- year-old, I am still a "young man." I'll take it where I can get it.

Shut up, kid!

:O)

I'm really hoping that smoking and drinking will carry me another 32 years so I can match the Old Man's 95.

Hey it worked for him!

Now the snap of latex will take on a more interesting meaning. You think your dad said “oof” when he was getting up. Just wait my young friend....

I cheated and retired at 55. Everybody said that it was far too early and I’d never find enough to keep myself busy. They were full of crap — jealous, I think.

But, I’m not 64 yet — another year before that milestone.

Heck yeah, life is good! I know how good I've got it, brother. I see the wrecks that people make of themselves by trying to self-medicate, drink, stone, or otherwise chemically-alter their brains just to get a temporary shift in their perceptions of reality. I see this misery every day, day in, and day out. I thank God for blessing me every day I get up, and I thank God for letting me be a part of His plan when I lay down.

No way will I lament being a mere 42! Not when I know that my life doesn't end even when my body's warranty does. How cool is that?

Happy Belated Birthday!
I'll be turning 33 one week from today yet I still don't feel a day over 25, both physically and mentally - I'm hoping that lasts!
Age is only a number, after all...

I'm oofing at 42 having spent my knees on too dang many jumps out of a perfectly good airplane and another ten on the decks of ocean-going tugs before I hit 32. Then there's the fact that my (repeat- my) comfy leather chair in the living room is a bit low. My car is also a bit low to the ground, and I park uphill.

I still happen to be a darn good-looking fella, if I do say so myself. (My wife of 18 years agrees... boy, have I got her fooled, or what?)

Great. Thanks a lot. I think I'll go stick my head in an oven...

But I won't inhale.

Been there. Done that. I said some words. “Oof” was not one of them.

If you’re still mobil and your memory still works...alot! They won’t be real high paying jobs, but how much money does a 105 year old need to spend?

Remember, you’re still closer to the 30s than to 50! Happy Birthday.

You’ve attained the age of knowledge. You’re at that magic age, of the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

I hit that age 3 years ago... But I forgot about it. But then, I forget about a lot of things these days.

What were we talking about? What’s my login?

Mark

I get my glasses at Walmart. A war took my hearing, so I get my hearing aids at the VA. Half of my teeth are plastic. I quit drinking when my liver reached the size of Vermont and quit smoking after 6X bypasses. But hey, I’m 55 and still have all my hair! It’s gray, but it’s hair.

It sounds like you are obsessing about a number. Old people tend to do that you know. I hope your birthday was a happy one! Keep you eyes on your future including your possible career change.
