Forty-Two

I turned 42 years old yesterday. There are a few ways of looking at this age. A pessimist, of course, would say that I'm already halfway to 84. On the other hand, there is some significance attached to this age. For example:

I'm twice as much fun as a 21-year-old; I'm young enough to be naughty and old enough to appreciate it. My age also happens to be the Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

It isn't so bad. Except maybe when I try to get into/out of my car, chair, bed, etc. and make the same oof! sound my dad made when he was 42. That gets a little irritating. And I have noticed that the women who flirt with me older.

But to a 70- or 80- year-old, I am still a "young man." I'll take it where I can get it.

I did. I bought a 2007 Ford Mustang. It's fast, it's deep metallic red, it has a black interior, it's loaded with options, it has a 5-speed stick and when I let the car ride second gear toward home my dear wife says it can be heard coming from the top of the hill.

Young enough to hot rod, old enough to be discrete about it. Heh heh.

I’m 85 which is twice your age. Guess what? When you reach 85, you will be saying what I say—”Where has all the time gone? It feels like just yesterday I was only 42.”

Congrats and Happy Birthday. lol

I, too, am 42. I don’t use laxatives, diapers, dentures, hemorrhoid pads, a cane, a crutch, or a wheelchair. All the bits and pieces work, and I fathered a child this year. God has blessed me. I’m glad to be 42 — it’s good to be alive!

We’re about to have our 6th child later this year. It gets a little tougher when you get into your forties.

I turned 31 in April. I already feel like an old man, when I hear my college age cousins talking about Facebook, MySpace, and other toys that I would consider an invasion of my privacy, but that they see as essential to their lives.

I have another "middle age moment" when a friend pointed out to me that the 10th anniversary of the Star Wars RE-releases took place, and when I was blasting "Bittersweet Symphony" in the car, and, last week, when the 20 y.o. lady in my car made fun of me for playing such an "old" song.

One of the reasons I really regret seeing the boomers eventually pass on is that then I TRULY will be the "old man out."

Welcome to the club 60. I turned 42 on the ninth of last month, but fortunately my wife turned 42 on the fifth. I have 4 days to tease her mercilessly, I can’t wait until she turns 50......
