[history]
This morning only a couple of minutes before 5am, I was surfing around when I came upon Fox News. Bill O'Reilly was closing out his show with him reading off a few viewers emails and him giving a small response to each one. One of them defended FreeRepublic, saying that doing a search, Daily Kos had thousands of certain cuss words, and FR had none. O'Reilly's response to that was: "FreeRepublic Needs A Monitor. It Has None." (And then he moved on to another email)
"..Alan Novak, Wichita, KS: "Comparing the Free Republic to the Daily Kos, I searched the F-word. Daily Kos, almost seven thousand mentions. Free Republic, none.""

BOR said on his radio show yesterday that the internet and the ‘hate sites’ slander people, and that there needs to be NEW LAWS made to police the internet.

Typical of O'Reilly. He can't bring himself to admit he was wrong. Everything's about BOR, and his omnipotence is not to be challenged by us mere mortals.
Just because this guy's on FoxNews doesn't mean he's right. Just because he skewers the liberals, that doesn't mean he's wise.
He's an all-purpose blowhard and a self-appointed authority on too many things he knows nothing about to be taken seriously by either side of the debate.

Memo to FReepers:
Turn off O'Reilly. Why bother? Watching negativity like his dressed in the airs of pompous righteousness is bad for your psyche.
Just Turn Him Off

BOR is absolutely right. Free Republic needs a monitor...
It also needs a keyboard, a mouse, a computer, and an internet connection.
And BOR needs some remedial training in what a hate site is.

Bill would love that job.
Maybe BOR just wants us to visit and debate on HIS "monitored" site. Hoping we will bring him more traffic.

Not that we all shouldn’t or haven’t, but here’s one not likely to be read from his inbox:
Dear B.O.
Thanks for achieving what the elites could not do to Talk Radio. The KOS drama, and your ERISTIC balancing attack on Free Republic gives candidates and mainstream press all the ammo they need to discredit legitimate debate. Dan Rather should buy you a drink.
To: olezip
Of course Free Republic needs a monitor to control its postings; Bill would love that job. Then he could remove news or information he does not like;
I quit watching O'Reilly years ago, when he was ranting about the private proms in Georgia.
IIRC, about that time, he ran a poll on his website. The result were massively against his position on the topic. He took the poll down, wouldn't release the final results, and claimed the poll was skewed because someone hacked his website. That is how Bill deals with opposing views.

No, but the poster has a point. I noticed a few years ago that our former firewall considered FR a banned site. Then I noticed a pattern of conservative sites blocked and things like DU, which definitely breaks several of our regs concerning usage, were not. Seems the manufacturer of the firewall was a lefty org. Obviously some manager high up likes sites like this as they all became accessible one morning.FR and the DUmp both were accessible from work for many years (gov servers). One day, I clicked on the DUmmie FUnnie link after PJ-Comix had posted his thread, and I got a "This site has been blocked and is prohibited by the administrator". I later found out that one of the IT administrators, was posting hateful things on the DUmp. Real smart kid - NOT.
FR has always been available and never blocked. One reason it is not, is that this site supports the military. I know my third level supervisor posted on the Canteen thread when he was deployed.

FR has a moderator.
Every single poster is a moderator.
We know the rules and we are responsible for our own behavior.
There are also Admin monitors and just because they aren’t needed very much doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
B.O.R. is just a vacuous twit. (Monty Python)
Sites like DU and KOS have so-called mods. The website owners, especially in the case of KOS, tailor the website around their personality and mentality.
Jim designed FR (as I am sure you are well aware, sorry for preaching to the choir) as an OPEN FORUM.
DU and KOS are not.
