Luring Lamar: ABC Asks 'What Would It Take to Get You Behind Withdrawal?'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Is ABC's Bill Weir a TV journalist or a recruiter for Team Defeat? You had to wonder, watching his interview on today's "Good Morning America" of Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tn.). Alexander has co-sponsored legislation that would make the Iraq Study Group recommendations the basis for future U.S. strategy in Iraq.

GMA CO-HOST BILL WEIR: You have introduced an idea now that really centers around redeploying our troops over there. What would it take for you to get behind a timetable for withdrawal?

This could be an MSM first: breaking out a variation on the old used-car salesman line: "what would it take to get you to buy this car today?"

Later in the interview, Weir returned to his effort of luring Lamar to the surrender side.

WEIR: The Democrats say your proposals don't have enough teeth. They really want to see some movement here. But as you watch the President this week, "stay the course," yet again [bad, bad, intransigent President!]. You're defying him in a way just by introducing this. Do you hope that he'll come around to you, or are you eventually just drifting towards an eventual [support for] withdrawal?

View video here.

When's the last time Weir asked a defeatist Senator "what would it take to convince you the tide is turning in our favor in Iraq?"

Mark was in Iraq in November. Contact him at mark@gunhill.net

This is completely consistent with the behavior of the White House press corpse in the last few days. They were patently trying to get the President and after that, Tony Snow, to tell them what conditions were necessary to get the President to withdraw so that they could then go to work on creating those conditions, or at least the perception of them.

The MSM doesn’t even have any interest in pretending neutrality any longer. They have come out of the closet. They are openly, completely, working for the Democrats.

There is no doubt.

And the really sad part is, most folk have no clue that this is even a problem.

Working toward our own defeat, adhering to the misinformation, disinformation and propaganda of those who support the victory of our enemy is... ok. Not a problem. No real worry. Nothing to get worked up about.

The betrayal of RVN cost several million lives in SE Asia, motivated the heck out of the hawk faction of the USSR, set balls rolling that we’re still trying to deal with and brought us nothing but shame and dishonor.

Now we sit on our hands and watch the same treason work the same process and most see it as simply business as usual.

ABC, what would it take for you to report the news rather than slant them in a liberal bias every day.

If you watch ABC, CBS, NBC or CNN, you must like liberal bias propanganda.

I don’t like many of the people Fox brings on the tube, but at least Fox attempts to present both sides.

I just go for the remote when I see Wesley Clark, Susan Estrich, or Geraldine Ferraro on Fox. All of them were were thrown out with the bath water long ago, and I don’t understand why Fox gives them air time. In any case, they don’t get more than a couple seconds of my time.

Here's what I want to know .. Where are all those people that were screaming about the immigration bill and national security ???

What these ninnies in DC are trying to do is way worse then that immigration bill

ABC is the Pentagon's PR agent.

Perhaps someone there forgot? ... or never cared.

James Baker asked Lamar where his loyalty lay..... To his constituents or to the men in the Bush 41 administration who got him elected to the Senate.

The fact he appears now as a muddleheaded meddler is because he is paying a political debt.

He hs two names now...Lamer and Muddlehead.

Well, seeing whom he asked - I’d say it was a fair question because it’s coming. Last week Lamar publicly said he already knew what Petreaus was going to say so why wait? Or as he put it “It’s like driving a wagon train up to the edge of the cliff. Why wait to stop it.” Highly pessimistic RINO. He can’t be trusted.

It is stomach-churning to recall that the Alexander bozo once thought he was presidential material. His presence begs the question: How the hell does the Senate of the United States attract and perpetuate such mediocrities? How does Tennesee? (And I include Fred Thompson who was perhaps the laziest Senator to grace the hallowed halls of Congress since Senator Bilbo departed.)

Alexander was selected for the Senate by Howard Baker et al with whom he served in the Bush 41 administration.

These are the same guys who cautioned against going to Baghdad in 91, deserted the Shia uprising, and wrote the ‘Report”. When they pull his strings, he jerks.

These old men, Alexander included, are the American equivalent of disgruntled communists from the Soviet Union.
