Would you trust his judgment more if he hired the staffers of a campaign that lost?

Hunter has his problems too. He's a big spender, he voted for CFR type legislation and I still haven't addressed the charge that he's a protectionist.

Yes, he spent like a Congressman, keeping money and businesses in his district, as opposed to allowing it to outsource. No better (or worse) than any other in office really. But I agree, he could have done better.

"CFR type legislation"? That's stretching it, considering Fred wanted his name on the McCain-Feingold package. If you give Thompson a pass, surely you can do the same for Hunter.

And the protectionist charge is because he wants to save the American industrial base. NAFTA - bad idea. China as MFN - horrible idea. I agree with him about making sure we keep crucial military manufacturing (software, armored vehicles, etc.) in this country, instead of allowing potential enemies to supply us.

He's said that he does not object to "fair trade" but our policy of "free trade" is not fair to American companies.

We'll never all find a perfect candidate, but IMO, Duncan Hunter is the closest.

Even though "he can't raise the money" to compete with the name recognition of the GOP elite.

You call the defeat by a whisker of a pompously sanctimonious horsepuss slacker like sKerry winning? Or in 2000 when it came to groveling for chads? When RR demolished his opposition by 49-1 states; that what I call winning!

He spent money on national programs, PDB, No Child Left Behind", '05 Highway Bill....

Where did I give Fred a pass on CFR. Anyway Hunter did vote on the CFR followup bill.

“Even though “he can’t raise the money” to compete with the name recognition of the GOP elite.”

You got that backwards. He needs to have distinguished himself through past accomplishments and yes getting his mug on TV and radio talk shows -- so the public has some idea who he is and what he has accomplished with his life so he is in a position to raise money; 24 years as a worker bee in the House ain't gonna cut it. Nobody is gonna hand fame to anybody and money don't buy a winning campaign... i.e. look at sorry assss mcPain

Winning is when your guy is in the White House at the end of January. I will settle for that in January 2009, even if he wins by a single hanging chad.

That's why I said, "He could have done better."

Where did I give Fred a pass on CFR.

I said "IF" and acknowledged that Hunter voted on the follow up.

It’s ironic but without campaign finance ‘reform’ a conservative may never get elected because they can’t raise the money that a liberal can. The 2008 campaign is illustrative. Since money is speech, liberals contribute more ‘speech’. Yes money talks and politicians listen.

I would trust his judgement more if he didn’t hire those that are so close to Jorge.

The WH may by God may not become RAT infested like it was in the 90’s; but Duncan wont have a personal role in that outcome. I bet a winning lotto ticket on it.

Hunter has been making the rounds. The MSM ignores him, and the GOP has no interest in conservatism, only winning.

If you think that money isn’t important in getting the message out, I think you’re greatly mistaken.

Do you think Rudy is where he is because his supporters know who he is, or because they like his policies?

McCain was popular until people got to see what he really stood for. The same thing will eventually happen with Rudy,

Since Thompson hasn’t had to be specific yet, time will tell if the same can be in store for him.

Nixon once said prematurely “We are all Keynesians now”, but they are ALL globalists now.

I wonder too if Thompson really doesn’t believe in much of anything except Thompson.

He certainly was pro-choice in 1994, but the evidence since then indicates he has changed.

And the evidence is...

His position on this isn't clear-cut. He was pro-choice but never voted that way, now he's supposedly pro-life but isn't sure that life begins at conception?

I'm willing to give him the benefit of a doubt. But since (I've already predicted) he won't announce until late August or early September, we all just have to wait on him.

I can see you will have to find out what Duncan’s obvious limitations are for national office the hard way.

No use talking to the zealots.

Keep those kneeslappers coming! LOLOL
