I tried to warn Bush against Iraq war: Powell
The Australian ^ | July 09, 2007 | Sarah Baxter

Posted on 07/08/2007 3:55:43 PM PDT by Enchante

FORMER US secretary of state Colin Powell has revealed that he spent 2 1/2 hours vainly trying to persuade President George W. Bush not to invade Iraq and believes today's conflict cannot be resolved by US forces.

"I tried to avoid this war," Mr Powell said at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado. "I took him through the consequences of going into an Arab country and becoming the occupiers."

Mr Powell has become increasingly outspoken about the level of violence in Iraq, which he believes is in a state of civil war.

"The civil war will ultimately be resolved by a test of arms. It's not going to be pretty to watch, but I don't know any way to avoid it. It is happening now," he said.

He added: "It is not a civil war that can be put down or solved by the armed forces of the United States."

The signs are that the views of Mr Powell and other critics of the war are finally being heard in the Pentagon, if not yet in the White House.

Just another way to bring about NWO

Shame on US we exercised the our voice to stop Amnesty and they all don’t know what to do with us.

I bet the G8 is very upset and some would like to employ more fear to get us to comply!

Look how fast Going Green Planet made its enterance after their meeting of what to do AT the simple folks!

The problem is not Iraq. It’s Iran. Iran had a strategy even before the war to de-stabilize Iraq after the US won the war.

Okay, at long last, let’s admit that mistakes have been made in Iraq. The first and biggest mistake was to turn the administration of post-war Iraq over to the U. S. Department of State, which was run by Colin Powell. That was probably done by the president as a sop to the Democrats to show how “moderate” and intelligent we would be in fostering democracy there. But then Paul Bremer, Powell’s man in Baghdad, made decisions to disband the Iraqi army and to ban Baathists from participating in Iraq’s new government. Any other mistakes we ought to admit? Maybe that Powell and Armitage should have been replaced much sooner, and Rumsfeld kept as secretary of defense.

No one cares what Powell has to say... Republicans will see him as a backstabber, and Democrats will see him as a coward who played along when he “knew better”. A few years ago, Powell had immense credibility. Now, he’s a nobody.

I’m glad we invaded Iraq, and I’m glad Saddam and his regime are gone. Nothing keeps conflict in Iraq going more than the popular notion that the U.S. will soon leave.

Powell opposed going after the rest of the Iraqi army in the Persian Gulf war, he opposed aiding the Kurds and the marsh Arabs against Saddam’s regime, and he opposed the second gulf war. What policy does he think would work?

Islamicists is a word for Islamic Extremists that are running around the world killing, killing and killing. They even kill their fellow Muslims.

We do not need to “kick the hell” out of the Iraqi Muslims that are fighting on our side against al Qaeda and Iran. They are dying and being maimed at the hands of the Islamicists.

Bush does not refer to these Nazi animals as “the religion of peace”. His reference there is to whichever Muslims are NOT the ones doing all the killing, killing and more killing.

“not at this moment our allies”

Some are, some aren’t. Ask our troops. They know. Some are, some aren’t. To “kick the hell” out of the ones that are would be both treachorous and stupid.

Powell is the same gutless wonder that stood by and let Scooter Libby take the fall when he knew all along it was his employee, Richard Armitage that was the leaker. I would not want Powell watching my back!
