Is this the same Mark Green that ran against Bloomberg in NYC in ‘01?

On Chrissy’s tell me something I don’t know

Andrea says that Obama will not only beat Hellary in the $$ numbers .. but also in the polling

Joe Klein .. says he took the McCain walk in Iraq and talked to many shop keepers ... Joel says the majority of them support Sadr and predicts that in 5 years he will be leader in iraq government

Chrissy and his panel all think the President’s leadership is dead since the immigration bill was killed in th senate .. though Andrea says she thought it ended with iraq

I’m guessing it will be a combination of all of the above.

I don't know, Roccus. I never heard of him before...much to my delight. May I never hear from him again.

We already have many guest worker programs in the form of various visas such as H1B, H2B, TN Nafta Work visa, L-1 Intra-company Transfer Work visa, Nurse Work visa, O-1 Visa, P Visa, R-1 visa, etc. There are millions of people working here as guest workers under those programs.

You have to read the parsing and nuancing in those statements.

In the previous paragraph, Chertoff specifically referred to c&r for OTMs.

It is similar to those mixing illegals and immigrations. It is intentionally to obfuscate the discussion.

Chertoff did that in several speeches and reports in 2006. He would talk of c&r in general terms, giving the implication that the whole program had ceased. However, investigative reports showed that c&r had ceased only for OTMs. [You gotta ask the right question in the right way to get an accurate response.]

Read some of Malkin’s articles about the raids and how most of those detained were released within hours -— but after the headlines of the raid made the media.

It is still a shellgame.

Chris Wallace should have asked, but didn’t: Has c&r ended for all or just OTMs?

I was just addressing Britain’s situation, not the motives

Sorry if it came across that I thought you were addressing the motives I realised that it was the situation you were addressing and I agree with you it has created this situation.

I do wonder though if in the future America may have a similar problem especially if they allow a large amount of Afghan's and Iraqis in hopefully they will heed the lesson learned in Britain and not repeat our errors or will closely vet those they let in. Often those coming in for economic reason rather than what would be classed as true refugee status are in fact more likely to cause less trouble because they are coming purely to work and earn money. Sad but true but the refugee normally has issues with the country that is taking them in because often it is the country that has caused them to have the refugee status in the first place that takes them in.

There are over 600,000 absconders who have gone through the entire legal process and ordered deported, but ICE doesn’t know where they are.

Every govenor of a border state should be outraged at this game of political chicken the Congress critters are playing with their states.

Perhaps they should start using federal highway funds to build a fence in their own state.

Or perhaps all of that Big Tobacco settlement money.

Build it themselves...hire state police to enforce the border and ten dare the Feds to try and do something about it.

Here are current classifications of Visas (There may be other special classifications, e. g., military personnel from other countries training in the USA):

Employment Visas
H-1B
H-2A
H-2B
H-3
O-1
Business Visas
L-1
I
E-1
E-2
Education Visas
J-1
H-3
M-1
F-1
Fiancee - Marriage
K-1
K-3
Other Visa Categories
B-1(travel-biz travel)
B-2 (travel-biz travel)
C (transit)
D (vessel crew)
R (religious)

Student Visas
Academic F-1 Visa
Non-Academic M-1 Visa

Requirements for general travel visas (like vacations) vary by country of origin. For Canada and Mexico, at least thru the end of this year, no passport is required to visit the US; all that is required is a valid country issued ID with a photograph. A new law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2008, which will require all citizens of countries in North America to have passports when visiting the USA.

Yeah, that’s him. He’s a liberal democratic party hack that has bounced around NYC politics for decades. Now maybe some folks here can understand how Bloomberg became mayor. (of course the imprimatur of the Republican party helped some also)

Agreed with your assessment of nuance. Now show me where Reid got his figure. I think it is as non-credible as the old clip of the black congressman who claimed in Congress that 30 million Africans died on their way to America during the slave trade days.

4000 every night is a magic number.

Every govenor of a border state should be outraged at this game of political chicken the Congress critters are playing with their states.

It is no longer just the border states. The problem has metastasized throughout the country, which is why grassroots organizations are springing up all over the country, e.g. Hazelton, PA, Herndon and Manassas VA, Oklahoma, etc. The states and local communities are bearing the brunt of the costs and impact as they see their schools, hospitals, law enforcement, and social welfare services decline and costs increase. One of the reasons that this bill achieved such a frantic sense of urgency by its supporters was to head-off and undermine local and state legislation to deal with this invasion. If the federal government is unwilling to enforce our borders and bring this problem under control, the people will. It is why only 26% of the people supported this bill.
