The party will either go into the 21st century and win elections, or it will refuse to modernize and continue to lose. I hope party leaders have the foresight to realize that opposing modernity is a losing strategy.

It is kinda hard to buy off on the evolution of man as Democrats still walk the earth. :)

There is absolutely no doubt about it here. It’s very sad that so many do believe in evolution. God is in His heaven and just waiting for His children to believe and repent. Trust in Him. He’s the only One who makes sense.

Sounds like the author wants to equate the belief in evolution with the right to govern.

I totally reject evolution. It’s absurd on its face and there is NO evidence to support it - just wild hypothesis since they were NOT there.

My God is no “ape” and I am NOT made in the image of an “ape”. Too bad others have such a puny, mindless god.

Oh, I see. Forsake reality and just "believe" because it's "modern."

What a lie!

Still bugs me that people are trying to separate science and God. There is nothing to say God wasn't behind evolution.. A lot of Genesis 1 indicates that God had creation come from 'Earth's processes'..
Let the land produce..and the land produced..and the Earth brought forth..

I hope the parties glom onto evolution. I’d love to live to see the egg on their faces.

What a condescending little twerp.

Having said that what are talking about. Because one may not buy the total “evolution theory” does not mean they are 1900th century caveman.

Of course evolution happened. But that doesn’t mean that “modernism” (whatever that is) is a good thing. In fact, in many ways the 20Century was a disaster, and this one doesn’t show promise of being much better. The only thing good about modern times is the better food and medical care, and the really cool gadgets. Other than that, the people are no better — maybe worse.

The article makes an historical mistake. Darwin’s Origin book was not the one that stirred up opponents; it was the later Descent of Man, which applied evolution to humans, which aroused uneasiness.

The GOP had to bring on a lot of poorly educated people in order to advance its war. Now it's stuck with a bunch of big government loving retards.

It's the 21st Century and the GOP still loves all kind of Socialism and is full of people highly suspicious of free markets and capitalism. No big surprise then that its voters would reject evolution as well.

If I read these numbers correctly, almost half of the country does not believe in the official scientific theory of human origins. That's quite amazing, and should confirm Europeans in their belief that Americans are ignorant.

I'm surprised how high these numbers are, especially since newspaper editorialists will have you believe that only a tiny fringe element of Christian fundamentalists rejects evolution. But Christian fundamentalists do not comprise half of the population.

My take on this is that many people just have a gut feeling that intelligence and order cannot spring from non-intelligence and disorder.

Evolution, as the dogma that is instructed at public schools and embraced by secularists as part of their humanistic religion, is a theory. It is based on seven very large assumptions and much is extrapolated. It is a theory, no more, no less. The problem that the secularists have with those who point this out is that just like they oppose any belief in a divine being, rejecting evolution rejects their premise of a universe void of God, which is what they ultimately are out to prove in their argumentation. Those beating the evolution drum are not about science, something they claim to have on their side. They are about pushing humanism, something very popular in Germany where this “ersatz religion” is very popular.

Yeah, those of us given the faith to believe the Bible is true are just a bunch of ignorant hillbillies. I'm so glad we can count on smarter, wiser people to lead us into the future.</sarcasm>

Evolution is hardly the definition of “modernizing”.

Humanity will turn back to it’s proper place in God’s creation, or will continue it’s slide into anarchy and Chaos.

There is no policy of government that SHOULD in any way be effected by one’s personal belief in the origin of man. However, to the degree that one might suggest that what a person believes should be judged in order to take a measure of the person, my response would be to reject those who reject God and his plan and purpose.

Fortunately for the athiests, agnostics, and other incorrect-believers, that is not what I, or a majority of people, use to judge our fellow man when it comes to choosing a representative, or making a purchase, or hiring for service.

So my warning is, don’t push it. We are a great nation because the believing community has determined that allowing plurality of beliefs is better for our own belief system. The more uninformed bigots push to minimize or restrict the correct view of the world by dismissing it as non-modern, or backwards, the more those with the true belief will have to assert their rights and place in our society.
