“peacefully, of course...”
Ah... The mark of a liberal. They feel strongly about this issue. But not strongly enough to fight about it.

I’ll let them secede, but only if San Francisco goes with them.

Go for it, Vermont.
Howard Dean could finally be President of something.

I remember that part of Vermont wants to seceed to New Hampshire because Vermont sucks so bad.
Funny how they think the union would be better if they left it.

“They want Vermont to secede from the United States — peacefully, of course.”
LOL! As did the South. Good luck with that.

Vermont, one of the whitest - and most liberal - states in the union, wants to succeed? I wonder if this has anything to do with all those non-white illegal aliens pouring into our country - the ones that so many of them and their ilk wanted. Hypocrisy? Apparently not when you and fellow Babelists demand ultra tolerance, and ultra Balkanization, for others while failing to practice the same in your own communities.
Somebody should rightfully hit these lefties back with their own words: racists and nativists.

As a young kid I worked for 8 summers in VT. I loved it. The people were the salt of the earth, however, a certain demographic started moving in in the late 60’s and early 70’s. This just overran the State. So you see what you have now!

That would shift the democrats into the minority in the senate. Also, it would get Leaky Leahy off the Senate Judiciary Committee. I'm all for it.
Is there somewhere that citizens of other states can sign up to encourage Vermont to secede?
To: Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus
They would never REALLY do this, and be independent of the US -
most socialists of the “shepherd” variety know that socialism won’t actually work, they just want to use the idea to attain power over the “sheep” socialists who don’t understand that it can’t work.

Another northern state discussion secession. Deja vu. NY discussed it twice before the Civil War, as did other states. The entire nation ceded their Constitutional authority to secede if they so desired (the argument of the Founding Fathers was, “let them leave if they want. They’ll come running back.”)
Strange how so many turned against this concept when Southern states decided to use this strategy that Northern states had threatened several times before.

Not too sure they will still think it is so hot when they find:
1. Two hostile neighbours aka the United States and Canada (with Harper).
2. Landlocked country and need access fees for external commercial links.
3. Visa access for all Vermonters entering the United States.
4. The US Army could garrison at the borders of Vermont.
5. The leftist majority is reduced Stateside, making the United States redder.

I have a better idea. They can leave, but leave the beautiful land that our ancestors fought to make free. I for one am descended from a Revolutionary War Veteran from Vermont, and I won’t sit still for this just because a handful of loonies have temporarily taken political control there.
