House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday laid out her criticism of the immigration compromise introduced in the Senate, calling the temporary worker program disruptive of families.
I have serious objection to the point system that is in the bill now, the speaker said on ABCs This Week. Yes, we should deal with the backlog [of workers seeking citizenship]. I completely agree with that. But the family unification principles which had been fundamental to American immigration are disrupted by what is in there now.
The point system Pelosi refers to would grant those seeking citizenship points based on English proficiency, work history, family status and passing a criminal background check.
We're about families and family values, Pelosi added. And having people coming and going, taking their children out of school and being separated from them - we should try to fashion something that recognizes the reality of life.
Pelosis concerns could have a significant impact on the success of the legislation as the House takes up the bill. Any significant tinkering with the legislation in the House could spell disaster for the fragile bipartisan coalition supporting the bill in the Senate.
Pelosi also addressed the conservative criticism that the bill amounts to amnesty for illegal immigrants.
No one is for amnesty, she said. And theres nothing in this bill that is about amnesty.
If the Prez and Congress continue to ignore the will of the people, they'll need more than martial law to dissuade us.
Nancy Pelosi never met a terrorist she didn’t feel sorry for. She thinks of herself as “royalty” and above us common people.
Working up to Cut and Run on this crisis too.
What cr*p. I had to stop reading here. The "family unification principle" fundamental to immigration was when the head of the household came over here, and worked hard and saved enough to bring the rest of the family over. LEGALLY. It wasn't when some Mexican woman had a baby right across our border and then demanded that the rest of the extended family members be allowed in.
Simple solution.....if your illegal in country you are a criminal....you should turn yourself in for enabling, coddling, pandering and bending over exercises by the congress and homeland security....a exorcism of sorts...when complete....they get a new suit, $100.00 in cash and a bus ride to Monterey, Mexico for free.
As for deporting them all, you don’t have to. If you deport enough and make getting a job, a drivers license, an apartment, schooling, health care, etc. nearly impossible, the rest will go home on their own.

Hey! No fair using logic!
Translation: There are TOO MANY WORKERS and NOT ENOUGH WELFARE DEPENDENTS coming over in the temporary worker part of the bill. She is quite happy with selling out the country and saddling $2.5 trillion in costs for taxpayers.
“As I said on another thread, we, supposedly, cant round them up, but what happens if this bill is passed and only some of them come out of the shadows, pay the fine, register, etc.? The will hear about the remaining millions that we cant round them up either. If this bill was not so infuriating it would be laughable.”
Of course, then the liberals will whine that obviously a $5,000 fine is ‘too harsh’ and we need to cut it down.
Before we know it, the fine for breaking our immigration law will be less than a speeding ticket, and the law will be treated with the same level of lawbreaking.
So we have to accept the unacceptable, or else...
Or start advocating that the President declare Martial Law. Because thats the only way youll ever be able to adopt any serious measure against the illegals. In other words, America has lost complete civil control, and we can either surrender to the invaders, or lose our freedoms.
If we accept this dilemma, we'll accept anything.
“The only way to get rid of them would be through dictatorial means. “
False dichotomy.
#1) Let’s just deport every criminal alien, ie, every alien who commits a crime. That’s over 100,000 deportations right there.
#2) Let’s just get it so that the border is *secure*, with a decent fence barrier that cuts crossings from millions per year to just tens of thousands.... then use the border patrol to keep it secure.
#3) Let’s make it so employers can have a *real* verification system’ change the law that kennedy wrote that makes it a crime for employers to recheck on this after they hire someone.
#4) Then run a social security check on the million+ numbers that a dupes or bogus and send a letter to the employer.
#5) Make sure that w eare not giving social services to illegal aliens.
Do all that and you will start to drain the swamp. It’s not draconian and would not cost more than we spend today.
“If youre not prepared to resort to such measure”
I am prepared to resort to steps 1-5. Do you object?
If not, then why not OPPOSE THIS TRAVESTY and get going on numbers 1-5?
“But, lets be very clear here: simply whining about the President does and contibutes absolutely nothing. “
Some people said that during the Harriet Miers fiasco... they were wrong. We got Alito out of our whining!
Maybe if we whined loud enough, the fools in Congress would pass a better bill!
“This debate has now been tabled until after Memorial Day. Keep the heat on kiddos!”
COOL - A SMALL VICTORY.
BUMP
Since the bill is hardly finished, Pelosi has definitely not read it. It is all about amnesty!
I read today that 28% of all elementry kids on Long Island are hispanic. I wonder how many are illegal. BTW....there aren’t 12 million illegals here folks. That number has been used by the Gov for 5 years while 30 to 50 million more have since entered.
Bttt!
Whew! When I read the title, I was afraid I would have to agree with Nan on something.
