We care about France. The many hundreds of FReepers who have been posting on these threads and taking great interest in this election.
This is a great opportunity for France. A great day for France, and a great day for Americans. A strong, pro-American France as a friend, ally, and trading partner is very important to us.
In addition, no more “freedom fries” and we can drink French Champagne and wonderful French wines again.
I’m happy for the French! Canada elected Stephen Harper and things are getting better for them, so let’s hope that the French can catch a break too!
My view is it is a step. What I don’t know and I suspect the other posters are asking is is he outside the welfare state consensus in Europe. Or will he just continue the slide while being a bit less anti-American?
I've been drinking them all along. Every bottle I have is one less that some Frog might enjoy.
ML/NJ
Agreed!:)
That’s actually a good point. Ok, I care about France.
You are absolutely right.
We are teamed with France in the development and production of military weapon systems. e.g. the ALFS (Airborne Low Frquency Sonar) ASW (Anti Submarine Warfare) system.
And will continue to do so on into the future.
Why drink French wine when German wine is so much better?
Maybe we can move to France if Hillary becomes president. (j/k)
“In addition, no more freedom fries and we can drink French Champagne and wonderful French wines again.”
And, we can eat French cheeses again (epoises, pont l’eveque....mmmmmmmm!)
Oh yeah, time to start rebuilding and drinking the good Pomerol, Margeaux and Burgundy!
Not to mention poping the corks on some tasty bubbly!
Go Szark!

You’re right, this is a great day for France, she is taking her first step by rejecting Royal’s tried and failed socialist anti-American rhetoric. Sarkozy’s problem now is the entrenched French bureaucrats, elitists and communists who will never allow him to institute the much needed reforms to France’s economy. I lived in France, I know the power the farmers and truckers have, they can bring the entire country to a virtual halt. All other French presidents have backed down from their threats, strikes and riots, now let’s wait and see if Sarkozy has the balls to do what has to be done. I hope he does, I sincerely mean that, but I’m not holding my breath.
Well said, Cincinna. I was deeply disappointed in French's actions leading up to the Iraq war, but I tried not to be like Muslims who hated the Israelis. After all, France is always in love/hate relationship with the US...
Formidable!
Thank you, Cincinna for keeping us up to date throughout this campaign.
Now I can put Grey Goose vodka back in my martinis!
