Vive Sarko!
Now, go kick some “yute” arse.
Well, yes, absolutely.
I guess I have a bad habit of noticing hotness in women and commenting on it. Again, I’m not the one who personally finds Mme. Royal to be hot. But if others do, it’s fair enough for them to mention it. I doubt there is even one FReeper who wanted this awful woman to win.
Sarkozys positions on most issues are virtually indistinguishable from Guilianis.
Some differences due to specifics, of course, but hes definitely not right wing
I agree, but by modern Euro standards, its the best we can hope for, for now. Like Confucius say: “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” We could hope for as much in the US nowadays.
Isn’t this a good omen for our own elections? As in Canada, the socialists LOST.
I wonder if this is the beginning of a change in Europe in general. First we have Angela Merkel in Germany, after that god-awful Schroeder, we had Berlusconi (unfortunately, just a joke), and now Sarko. Eastern Europe has our back, now maybe Denmark. So, who’s next....?

I am so happy about this it looking better for tomorrow...
It is a good day and the homeland French are good people!
This was not only a mandate; at 85% voting, this was a BLOW-OUT! And IMO, it is past time that France and the US regained their former friendship with a conservative at the helm. This is wonderful, wonderful news!
I have read that the “rioting” is no worse, no better, than in the days prior to the elections. Let’s hope this good result for France means marginalization of their malcontents in the future, so they can quit with the car-bombings and just grow up.
Thanks for noting that the anti-US people and anti-Iraq-war people and socialists are all gone, while President Bush and PM Howard are still here, and more countries are going conservative (Canada).
YAY!
We were in France last summer, and I found the French people to be MUCH more American-friendly and conservative than I had been led to believe. It was pretty astonishing (and delightful) how much affection they held for Americans. The media lies all over the world, I guess.
By the TV5 footage and the pictures posted here, it seems like all the hotty French chicks are pro-Sarko, and the ummm not so hotty/femini-lesbos are pro-Sego. Am I just imagining things?
I am afraid you are, for I know of quite a few babes who were staunch supporters of Ségo....and whose poor hurting hearts probably are badly in need of sweet and tender care. ;)
Interesting, thanks for sharing. How is Sarkozy associated with Baltimore?
Sarko opposes the 35 hour week. He has said it will remain in effect for all those who want it. Everyone else will be allowed to work extra hours and keep the money, free of taxes.
Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Good points. Much like the UK, the US and France have many common points. So it in some way the little spat between us is like two (or three) brothers arguing amongst themselves. They may yell, scream or wrestle on the ground with each other, but God help who ever tried to fight one of them. For the other two would soundly thump the intruder, and go back to arguing.
Hell, we need each other too much. Who would we bicker with otherwise ?
OK, AF, I don’t think we’re on the same wavelength on this, but just the same, I welcome the election of Sarkozy, and I hope it does represent a new era in Franco-American relations. As much as I have been a very harsh critic of France, it would be wonderful if Sarkozy could awaken the better nature of the French people and bring them back to the traditions of a LaFayette and DeToqueville: men of honor and principle who were true friends.
Good point
