JIM ROBINSON AS THE NEW JOSEPH FARAH - STABBING THE CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT IN THE BACK [Re:Giuliani]
On one the few rational minds left around here - but for long | 4/24/2007 | Al Simmons

Posted on 04/24/2007 10:22:39 AM PDT by Al Simmons

About me:

Lurker - since 1998

Member - since 1999

In self-imposed exile - since April 2007

The tone of the debate and the attacks on long-time fellow Freepers for the cardinal sin of daring to support Rudy Giuliani in early 2007 around here have really saddened me. Instead of fighting the enemy FR is now imposing an 'ideological purity' test on FR members. The well-oiled train has gone off the rails and Mr. Robinson risks becoming the next Joe Farah - a fellow who started a great website for conservative news and opinions, but who gradually drifted off to la-la land, losing all credibility - and readership - in the process.

He has set himself squarely in the Internet media spotlight, doused himself with gasoline, and and lighted himself on fire - a fact that has not escaped the attention of the left-wing lunatics at Daily Kos. Their reporting on what has been going on at FR is perhaps the first factually true account published on their site.

Jim, if that quote of yours about setting up an organization to 'Swiftboat Rudy' is accurate as quoted in their article, the only thing I have to say to you is that you ought to be ashamed of yourself, as you have now become the back-stabber of the conservative cause.

If you wish to marginalize this site by turning it into a narrow "several-issue" forum, that is your right. Just as it is my right to choose to not participate here any longer.

But you will be disappointed if you think that the crude, illiterate "goon squad" you have allowed free rein around here (dmw, narses, dirtboy, extremely extreme extremist, ReaganMan and several others - if I have slighted anyone, please email me if you want onto this list) will elevate the level of intellectual debate.

The result has been predictably in the other direction. That is what happens when you hire a bunch of brown shirts to enforce your own brand of political correctness.

Well, guess what? Politics is 99% BS and one can quite nicely live one's life without the need to bloviate about it. I know how I am going to vote. I could care less about anyone else. Life is too short to waste my time around here when I am clearly one of those made to feel like they are not welcome.

So, go ahead Jim -

MAKE MY DAY. BAN ME. I DARE YOU.

I’d bet if Tommy Franks were to throw his hat in he’d rise to the top of the polls very quickly.

Show me the conservatives!

Duncan Hunter. Fred Thompson. Tommy Thompson. Newt Gingrich.

They are only unrealistic because people like you say so and don't support them. You send the message that the RNC doesn't support conservatism. Your faith in conservatism is pretty shallow if you can't express support for a conservative over ten months out from the primaries when it doesn't cost the party a thing to do so.

Duncan Hunter. Fred Thompson. Tommy Thompson. Newt Gingrich.

Again, they are not exactly motivating the party. We need someone new and interesting, someone who can overshadow Rudy.

You said "Giuliani" and "conservative" in the same sentence. Ha ha, that's a good one.

IOWs you’re motivated by Rudy not the conservatives who are or might run.

.................The election is in November of 2008-—more than 18 months away-—which is at least six different lifetimes in this hyper media age...................

Nope!

The election is on Feb. 5, 2008, less than 10 months away, as the electoral votes will be decided on that primary day.

There ain’t no way that a viable diss candidate will be able to enter the race after 2/6/08 as all the money will be lined up as of then.

It’s gonna be series ugly, and your phone will ring countless times before Feb. as the pollsters take over.

I don’t think JR means to cut off pro Giuliani supporters here on FR but he doesn’t have to like it, either.

I believe that as long as people generally respect the rules and mission of the forum, and do not lie, there is no problem. This whole thing with Rudy reminds me of the Schwarzenegger/McClintock wars from a few years back. Shwarzenegger was known even then to be at least as liberal as Rudy is viewed now. Probably more so.

If I recall correctly, Jim supported Schwarzenegger in that one and I believe it was out of sheer pragmatism (ie., Arnold could WIN against whatever Democrat he would ultimately face). Ironically, many Rudy supporters (and I am now OFF that bandwagon) support Rudy for the same reason.

Meanwhile.... Run, Fred, RUN! I beg of you....

Romney is probably more liberal than Giuliani.

Give me a break; you're being a bit ridiculous here.

I’m not at all motivated by Rudy. I’ll admit that I was very early on when he first announced because I was solely basing my decision on the WOT. His original stand on partial birth abortion is totally a turn off. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see if anyone else emerges over the next several months. My issue is that I’m just angry that the party hasn’t groomed any up and coming potential candidates knowing that Cheney wasn’t going to run.

>>But when the Rudybots started posing some claimed that if I didn’t support Rudy I was not a very smart person, and that was one of the nice things he said.<<

My all-time favorite is when they say if I don’t support Rudy, it is a vote for Hillary.

I find the Giuliani bashing threads pretty stupid.

Posting the facts on Hizzoner is not "bashing" him. You guys really need to wake up and smell the coffee.

“someone’s restaurant ... get up and leave.”

Ah, but this isn’t someone’s restaurant. FReep is a valuable political resource that plays a unique role in the Movement. The good judgment or lack of good judgment with which it’s run is of legitimate concern to all conservatives. We don’t have much, so what we do have needs to be good. Whether FReep is good or not is a very legitimate topic of debate.

You cannot use cheap analogies to the business world (that this is a business, that we are customers) in politics. They don’t work, because the two spheres are radically different.
