Acting on advance information is a TOTALLY different ball of wax. A bomb threat is NOT a lone gunman making random and utterly unpredictable choices. Look, given the time between shootings, he could have gone to a retirement home and done his evil there! There is NO WAY anyone could have predicted HIS choices.

Why don’t they use tear gas? Not Putin grade but tear gas? They just waited outside, the cops.

But the presence of a gun creates, in and of itself, the danger of gunfire. Is that so? All of my guns must be broken then. None of them just sitting on a table create any gunfire.

I was on campus during an elementary school lockdown and never felt so helpless in my life. A classroom full of kids with a full wall of windows and only two adults in the room, the teacher and me. All I could do was try to think of a way for my death to make a difference.

Cyclopean Squid: Incidentally, in order to properly maintain their sovereignty, should the People through militias be able to have tanks and aircraft? Surface to Air Missiles? Grenades? Because in order to properly challenge governmental authority they would need it. Those are not really necessary to fight an occupying power. Small arms do ok it seems.

I know...but that might be where the asian reports all came from.
To: Lazamataz
So how, then, to succeed in defending against a rogue government? It doesn’t seem very likely given those limitations.

In the liberal future, all perps other than white males will be described as “earthlings” because anything more descriptive will be deemed offensive.

"Incidentally, in order to properly maintain their sovereignty, should the People through militias be able to have tanks and aircraft? Surface to Air Missiles? Grenades? Because in order to properly challenge governmental authority they would need it."
I'm a Class III owner. Maybe you should check out what is legal to own before asking silly questions. Then do a search on how many Class III weapons have ever been used in a violent act of crime since the Dept of Treasury has been keeping records on us for over half a century.
"Should we allow arms to be used in political assassination?"
Clarify your question. "Political assassination" of elected officials in this country would be a big "No-No". However... political assassinations of threats to our nation from outside our boarders could have prevented some needless death and destruction, but Clinton couldn't pull the trigger on OBL so we got 9-11.
" What else would the right to bear arms be good for, if their purpose is to keep the power over the state?"
You really need to look up some quotes from our founding fathers regarding the RKBA.

From Channel 10, all Montgomery County, VA, schools will be closed tomorrow.
Also, VT students calling in. Around 9:30, some professor stopped some young women going to class in Norris and told them about the earlier shooting and suggested they leave campus. They did and likely saved themselves.

if they couldn't get a usable set of prints off the guy, and the labels were cut out of his clothes, stuff like that, I'd be tending more toward a terrorism angle and less about a student/boyfriend/professor/TA going postal. And if the shooter really shot himself instead of being taken down by LEO it lends credence to a programmed assault.

the press is doing the right thing. the natural inclination of the power structure is to hide the truth, push off responsibility.I don't think so. Knowing the press's propensity to spread rumors as 'truth', as they did with the situation in New Orleans with Katrina, I'd rather let the police get their investigation done and get the real story. As most police officers will tell you, 'eyewitness accounts' are very often wrong, and even more so in such a fast moving and volatile situation.
