The duration and distance were short, but in those dizzying seconds and feet, Gov. Jon Corzine suffered injuries serious enough to land him in intensive care with a breathing tube down his throat and a doctor declaring him lucky to be alive. The 60-year-old governor underwent about two hours of surgery last night to repair multiple broken bones, including 12 ribs and a femur that protruded through the skin of his thigh following a car accident on the Garden State Parkway in Galloway Township.
With two of his adult children by his beside, Corzine, sedated and on intravenous painkillers, remains in intensive care in Cooper University Hospital in Camden this morning. He required seven pints of blood, officials said, and is using a breathing tube to ease his respiration with the broken ribs, and a broken breastbone.
The governor also suffered a broken collarbone and lower back bone and a flap-like cut on his skull, which was a plastic surgeon stitched back together.
Corzine spokesman Anthony Coley said the governor did not appear to have suffered brain or spinal cord damage.

” Accident means two people came together without anyone being at fault.”
I think it really means without intent. Most accidents are caused by people who didn’t mean to do what they did, but they’re still responsible civilly, if not criminally. An act of God would cover something that’s no one’s fault.
This is not an immigration thread; it’s about a man who, whether you agree with his politics or not, is in serious condition.
Can’t you refrain for just ONE SECOND from pounding your one issue?
God knows there are a million threads on here where you can post that stuff.
You're thinking of the femoral artery
see post 34
How could they tell? He's a democRAT.
a broken femur can cause significant blood loss although death is rare. The bone does not carry a lot of blood, but is in very close proximity to some large (femoral artery and vein) blood vessels that can be lacerated by jagged bone edges.
Sounds like compartment syndrome. Very serious.
Proofters—er, I mean proofers—went out the door three downsizings ago.
compound leg fracture ..... 12 broken ribs .... broken back ..... ouch ouch ouch ouch ouch !!!!!!
I really feel sorry for Corzine in this very difficult time he’s facing. I wish all the best to him and his family on a speedy recovery.
Ouch...those injuries sound quite painful.
Hope he makes a good recovery.
I sincerely hope that Monty Johnson doesn't own a red pickup. If he does, I'll bet Elizabeth Edwards will pin it on him.
Go read the article before making unfounded accusations:
Corzine was sitting in the front passenger seat of the black Chevy Tahoe, alongside his driver, Trooper Robert Rasinski, according to New Jersey State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes. In the back sat Samantha Gordon, an aide who typically accompanies Corzine when he travels beyond the Statehouse. It was not immediately clear if the governor or the others were wearing seat belts.
Actually you'll find very few comments by me on immigration issues - I can't even recall any at all other than this thread but I may have forgotten a couple. This is not a particularly important issue to me. Islamofascism is the big one, so your comment about me "pounding on my one issue" is inaccurate and baseless. But as I said in #36 it was my first thought and I don't regret posting it. Seems like I am not the only one to have that thought either.
How are you going to feel if indeed it turns out to be an illegal that caused it, meaning that it was avoidable?
I’m not interested in how many posts you make; I, along with plenty of other people, are sick and tired of seeing that on every damn thread on this forum.
Someone also mentioned (maybe here on this thread) that Corzine was known to flip the bird at motorists who didn't move over quickly to make way for his motorcade. If this is true (and it would not be out of character for this moron to do this), then screw him.
My daughter was in an accident caused by another driver who blew through a red light. She called to ask us to join her.
The other driver had disappeared from the scene for a while. After 10 or so minutes, 1. the driver, 2. a cop and 3. a "witness" in an SUV (who was barefoot and did not have his license on him) showed up (in that order). The witness said he was behind the other driver and the light was green for them.
The other driver informed us that he was an important businessman in town. He also shook hands with the cop and asked if the cop knew J-- G----. (name deliberately abbreviated),
Funny how the other driver was not held responsible.
Knowing the "right person" can make responsibility for an accident go away. Too bad my daughter didn't have a camera-phone back then.
