Senate backs troop withdrawal from Iraq
Reuters (excerpt) ^ | March 27, 2007

The U.S. Senate on Tuesday endorsed a March 31, 2008, target date for withdrawing American combat troops from Iraq, moving Congress a step closer to a showdown with President George W. Bush over the war.

By a vote of 50-48, the Senate defeated an amendment that would have stricken the withdrawal language from a $121.6 billion bill that mostly would fund the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A final vote on the bill is expected later this week.

UH.... If the RINOs were still there, then this would still happen anyways. What do you think RINO stands for?

Love it...Brit just now, "Does anyone know what Hagel's thinking, if he's thinking? What's up with him? Does he have a chance in hell as a Repub running for Pres?

Panel is not optimistic on this at all. Very worried for the troops. Darn that Hagel! We would've had a tie and Cheney would've broken it and that's that.

The Dems know how to defeat a Republican. Accuse him of some minor moral flaw, do it a few times and every self righteoius Baptist in the state will go tsk tsk and stay home. The self righteous whores make me want to vomit.

jveritas understands our President a whole heck of a lot more than you do.

(But I love you 'manly' guys who show your courage by typing the word 'balls.')

The president has never had any real reason to use his veto pen. This time he does and he will use it

There were a couple of GOP senators who voted for it too.

Guess you missed the public thrashing of the democrats a few days ago by him too. Maybe you should quit believing GW is the boogeyman, like the donks and MSM want you to, and attack he real enemy, the party of jackasses, the democrats. They are the ones that are actively assisting Al Qaeda to kill you, yours and every other American.

Smith and Hagel will not suffer because of their votes and, given the public climate, may gain votes because of them

They need to be challenged in the primaries.

Throwing these two traitors out of the party is the only way I will ever donate to the RNC ever again.

He made the wrong vote on the most important issue of our life time! That by itself should brand him as a traitor.

Why a rotten fellow used the F word on me just yesterday, and I didn't even post abuse on him.

You should. This place is on the road to becoming a cesspool like D.U. We're slouching toward Dimmorah, so to speak. But it's not the vulgar language that is bad, it's that the bad language tends to crowd out good thinking. And people who are articulate and well-informed posters will eventually find a forum where that's respected.

When a board goes that direction, it becomes an impotent rage site. FR doesn't have to go that way.

That's what happened to get Barbara Boxer into the Senate. Her opponent Bruce Herschenson (sp?) had some minor imbroglio (this was in the 1990s) and the Dems made the most of it. He lost support from the "moralists" and the rest is history. Boxer's on her third term now...

The president has never had any real reason to use his veto pen.

That's quite an overreach. How about McCain-Feingold? How about a myriad of bills loaded down with pork. If the President isn't the bad guy who vetoes overspending don't expect anyone in Congress to try.

Agreed re: the thread topic - he should and will veto this one.

Great post! That's what has me so spitting mad. Then some FReepers throw in the old lie about stay home voters giving the dims the power they wield today, which only adds to the frustration and anger.

Our military has been betrayed. Betrayed!

Not only does he need to veto this bill, but Bush needs to start telling the Dems where to put it. I realize he's finally had enough after his last remarks Friday, but sometimes I just wish he'd take off the gloves and really put his foot down. HE is the COMMANDER IN CHIEF and HE should be able to direct HIS military and have the funds to do so without any timetable.

Besides that, putting a "timetable" out there, in any way, IMO, is just telling the terrorists what time to wait for...

It's BU!!$H*T and I'm sick and tired of everyone giving out our plans and strategies!!!

That is where you are wrong. Since the cut and run coward Paul has announced his intent to run for the presidency, you are about to get a blunt public humilating message to showing how much influence he has with republicans and conservative voters, not much at all.

Paul will likely do pretty well. Didn't he just hit 3%, going past Hunter and Tancredo? Apparently, Paul is especially strong with Republican women.
