" 'We're a public law office, so whenever there's a significant announcement or a significant legal actions being taken, it's our duty and obligation to tell the public ... that we are working to ensure the safety and security of travelers at LAX,' Velasquez said..."
It was your duty to ensure the safety and security of travelers at LAX by preventing crime in the first place.
"...During the news conference, Delgadillo will also announce the launch of his 'LAX Security Enhancement Initiative' according to Velasquez."
Gee, I wonder what plans they have for acquiring the money to fund their new Security Enhancement Initiative. /s

add to these 10 who were caught the number who haven't been caught, then multiply THAT by the number of airports, and you have an awful lot of time spent scheming and committing these crimes that ought to be dedicated to transportation security but is not.

Anytime that airport security (whether private or TSA or local police) go through your baggage, it should be done in front of you so that you can monitor it. You already know what's in your baggage, so why does inspecting your bag have to be done in secret in a hidden part of the airport?

Good thing they are pensioned. It will be heck firing them, and the govt will have to pay for their rehab, because they are sick and depressed based on FEMA's response to Katrina.

Just exactly a month ago they stole the Bic lighter out of my camera bag (like maybe I was gonna go big and take down a DH-8 turboprop - somehow, with that). The same lighter made it from Eugene to Puerto Vallarta and back. Guess I should have put it in my pocket. But no worry - I had no more use for it then until I got home - and just in case, I still had plenty of matches.
But we had quite a layover at LAX so had some time to look around. There, just as in so many other places, the secure area contains plenty of opportunities to gather various objects I imagine would be useful to the hijacking kind.
Airport security is a joke, but it does provide employment and other obvious opportunities for the less ambitious who can't make a living anywhere else.

I just ran across this posting and started thinking. It appears that a majority of the thefts occurred from items being held in the TSA/LAX lost and found; the people being charged are screeners, lead screeners, screening supervisors and a screening manager all of whom worked with the then Primary Screening Manager for terminal six at LAX. As a group these people established the lost and found system that was in place at LAX and so easily abused. I was wondering if anyone has bothered to look into the possible connection to the Primary Screening Manager who is now an Assistant Federal Security Director at Houston’s airport? This is an individual who had the ability to lie anytime he spoke and I never did trust him.

My daughter lost her luggage at LAX three weeks ago.
It turned out her bags were offloaded at Detroit during a stopover. Her bags were delivered the next morning. She didn’t report anything missing.
If she finds out about this, she’s going to ask me to buy her a whole bunch of new stuff.
