I've been a member for awhile but this is the first time I've ever started a thread. This is a vanity, so one of the mods can move it if I've put it in the wrong classification.
My son is a student a Cheat Lake Middle School in Morgantown, West Virginia. For the last several weeks, he has come home saying that his teacher frequently takes time out of class to discuss his personal views on global warming. Today, he said they took two hours out of class to watch Al Gore's pseudoscience documentary "An Inconvenient Truth". I was absolutely stunned.
I have heard of several controversies where they've shown in in public high schools, but I cannot believe that they would show this to 5th graders. There wasn't even a word of advance notice to parents.
I've tried to contact the school's Principal and the the local newspaper. I'm at a loss as to how proceed from here to draw some attention and outrage, and would welcome advice from fellow freepers.
Yeah, I was going to suggest that, but I figured that it wouldn't be very helpful to him.
bttt
The school owns your children. Your minor daughter can be encouraged to have an abortion without your ever knowing she became pregnant. Welcome to modern life. Good luck. If you want to burn the school to the ground, I'll be happy to send matches. Other than that, I would recommend you put your children in Private School where parents still have some control over the process. Good luck.
De-program YOUR son, everyday.
Yes, the option to still pay thousands in property taxes and spend $20,000 more for private school is an option for all of us. Union teachers rolling on ground laughing out loud at this idea.
I speak from experience. LOL, NOW it's funny. My daughter's doc warned them she has exercised induced asthma and sent very detailed instructions in writing that they could not FORCE her to perform in gym class........needless to say the gym teacher labeled her and one day DID force her......she had quite an episode of an asthma attack....I was called and raced to the school to find the gym teacher stunned and rambling that she was so sorry she FORCED her to run.....of course I had used the "s" word in warning them that this would happen.....they pulled the gym teacher and admonished her for even speaking to me. The nurse and I figured that she learned a very valuable lesson in attitude ajustment.
After all, they had it in writing from her doctor NOT TO DO THAT! I counted my lucky stars that day that she came out of it, but I called her doc and requested a stiffer warning. Her doc said it was equivalent to child abuse to force her to run.
Have any of you seen Gore's film? I have not and do not intend to, but my ex showed it to my teenage son and my son said it was HILARIOUS as a piece of fiction. I thought it would be some showpiece with Gore's face in nearly every frame, him holding up a pointer to distorted data on a screen behind him, and images of polar bears struggling in the water. My son says there is a plot and story to the film and it sounded like it was one of those cheapo natural disaster films, with giant tidal waves and a family struggling in the frozen city, etc. Oy vey.
Good advice, JG. Arm your son with the truth and he will be prepared for life.
I'd get your son to watch the great global warming swindle video everyone is linking, ASAP. Then tell your son to get all his friends to watch it too. Then get all your friends to watch it.
I saw it on a 12 hour flight to Germany, what can I say, I was bored.
It was like watching a Freshman lecture hall presentation, but w/o the opportunity to scope out the room for potential, IYKWIM.
I was not aware that " the Great Global Warming Swindle " was out on video or DVD. I have watched it on the net but really need to get a copy for my mother who has fallen for the entire Al Gore BS.
Where did you find your copy?
Your snarky comment not withstanding, do you have any idea how much money is being lost due to homeschooling?
That is the battle your Union friends are really up against, not the high cost private schools.
Snark. See my post 26. I gave sensible advice to his question. I happen to think it's a realistic way to live in this world.
This is what I did with my daughter when she was in high school. She is out of college now but we still laugh about many of the twisted views espoused by some of her far left teachers. If one of her teachers had been right the oceans should be boiling right now.
Rest assured, none of my grandchildren will be attending public schools.

it's jarring that the movie was not scrubbed for factual precision. For instance, this 2005 joint statement by the science academies of the Western nations, including the National Academy of Sciences, warns of sea-level rise of four to 35 inches in the 21st century; this amount of possible sea-level rise is current consensus science.
Yet An Inconvenient Truth asserts that a sea-level rise of 20 feet is a realistic short-term prospect. Gore says the entire Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets could melt rapidly; the film then jumps to animation of Manhattan flooded. Well, all that ice might melt really fast, and a UFO might land in London, too."
