I've been a member for awhile but this is the first time I've ever started a thread. This is a vanity, so one of the mods can move it if I've put it in the wrong classification.
My son is a student a Cheat Lake Middle School in Morgantown, West Virginia. For the last several weeks, he has come home saying that his teacher frequently takes time out of class to discuss his personal views on global warming. Today, he said they took two hours out of class to watch Al Gore's pseudoscience documentary "An Inconvenient Truth". I was absolutely stunned.
I have heard of several controversies where they've shown in in public high schools, but I cannot believe that they would show this to 5th graders. There wasn't even a word of advance notice to parents.
I've tried to contact the school's Principal and the the local newspaper. I'm at a loss as to how proceed from here to draw some attention and outrage, and would welcome advice from fellow freepers.
Captain,
This little video may help you understand why your kids need to be OUT of the government indoctrination center.

My son is a high school sophomore. I hit the roof a couple weeks ago when I learned his "science" teacher showed the film. I haven't calmed down enough yet to go talk to him.
I would ask the school officials to at least have the kids watch a show on the opposing point of view.
Call the School Board in the morning.
The flagrant exhibition of communist rule is beginning to show it's ugly head. America has been under siege for many many years. The colleges have already been totally taken over.
Again, call the School Board
INTREP
I thought they strictly enforced the separation of church and state in government schools....
Separation of school and state BUMP!
Demand that the kids be also shown the following video that presents the other side of the story, and make a big stink about it...

Find other parents that are equally disgusted and form a united front and confront the principal and teacher. Make a scene so that the press has to cover it.
The time has come to take the fight to these bullies!!!
Good luck!
You should politely but firmly demand they be shown the rebuttal film.
The Great Global Warming Swindle

Threaten to withdraw your son from the school if they don't do something about the teacher; potentially losing money is probably the only thing that will get their attention.
Sue the bastards!
This is criminal.....it will scare the kids.
-use the "s" word in school and pay the price. -you WILL be labeled....not worth it, just pull your child and homeschool.
There is a low-resolution version linked at Little Green Footballs, here:

There are higher resolution versions available as torrent downloads on the Internet. There might be copyright problems with using this material -- I'm not sure.
I think the global warming hysteria is roughly analogous to the A-bomb "hysteria" ( as it's known ) of the fifties and sixties. I remember seeing news footage on TV, at the age of 10 or so, of a congressman talking about "the end of the world". At this age, one need only hear the words, and that's it. As I recall, my dad was nearby at the time, and I freely vocalized, "What! The end of the world!" My dad pooh-poohed the idea. "Oh, that's a bunch of nonsense!" - or something along those lines. This was immensely reassuring to me, although I still had my doubts. Why was he saying this stuff, even if it was nonsense? It was on the news!
Well, my advice is to not underrate your own influence as a parent, and hence not to overreact to these other influences ( i.e. Al Gore ) If you were to take actions such as withdrawing your son from various activities, or any kind of thing which singled him out at school, this would be intensely disturbing to him, and throw him into a whole new realm of confusion. I think it's best to be calmly reassuring, and, as I say, do not underestimate the power of such reassurances issuing from your own self, the one and only DAD. ( Or MOM, in case I presume too much! )
That film is only appropriate for a mythology class.
There is an opposing film now out, done by some Brits. I believe I would argue that it has to be shown now as well.
