I'm having surgery on my vocal cords next week and need ideas on what foods are easy to swallow. Can you help?
AKA "Barley soup," which works well on an expense report. "Boy, NVA. You sure do love your barley soup. But for every meal?"
You have to be careful after the surgery because you can't concentrate your bile and a big load of grease will go straight to the colon without being digested. (like grease through a goose) However, with proper training and perseverence, you will be able to knock down a fried chicken and wash it down with gravy. You just have to keep your eye on the goal and keep pushing the limits. ;)
Milkshakes with yogurt, ice cream, milk or ice, and maybe flavoring or chocolate syrup. Obviously not a diet food, but most can be obtained sugar free or no sugar added.
Yum! Now, you have made me hungry for a milkshake. LOL!
"Fruit Chillers" by Del Monte
Frozen Fruit Sorbet made with real fruit
So far I've tried the rasberry and the mango. Goes down easy.
Baby food.
Yogurt.
Ensure is not as tasty as Boost, IMO. And Boost tastes better chilled.
Wine.
Bananas.
Peanut butter.
Chicken soup.
Frozen Fruit Bars but you would have to be careful not to swallow a chunk...
heehee, cheers!!! (lifting milkshake)
I have an old cookbook that has a list of recipes for "invalids" on a liquid diet. I can look later and see what I can find.
LOL! I'm jealous. I don't even have any ice cream. :o)
Don't feel bad, i'm really at the library and don't have ANY of the ingredients! I'm waiting for my sons to finish their fencing class.
And come to think of it, i don't have any of my ice cream (no sugar added) at home either. sigh.
Sport Shakes.
Nestle Nutrition: Nutren 2.0 (complete calorically dense liquid nutrition)
GET A VITA MIX--not cheap.
puree anything.
BECAUSE THERE ARE TONS OF PROFESSIONAL AND LAY EXPERTS ON ABOUT ANY SUBJECT WHO ARE FREEPERS
AND THEY ARE LOVING AND KIND TOWARD HELPING OTHER FREEPERS.
You were thinking what?
I loved the pablum when I fed my kids. The meat would be a good source of protein, but not real tasty.
About four years ago, my hubby (freeper Big Guy and Rusty 99) had surgery to repair a deviated septum and remove his uvula.) For about three weeks, he ate nothing but Kozy Shack chocolate, banana and vanilla pudding -- the rice pudding, sadly, was too 'chunky' to swallow.
Determined to get some actual vitamins, minerals and nutrition, I made him drink this stuff they fed my Mom in the hospital -- it's called Ensure.
It's high calorie liquid nutrition with a good amount of protein. It's not the best tasting stuff in the world, but it's a little better than all the puddings, etc.
Hope that helps some, and I'll keep you in my prayers. Good luck!
Call the dr office. Usually they give you a stack of papers to sign and read which include recovery tips.
And come to think of it, i don't have any of my ice cream (no sugar added) at home either. sigh.
OK, now I don't feel so bad. LOL :o)
