Posted on 03/19/2007 3:37:22 PM PDT by Miztiki

I'm having surgery on my vocal cords next week and need ideas on what foods are easy to swallow. Can you help?

So far my list is quite small:

Ensure (the nutrition drinks)

Jello

smooth soups

ice cream

pudding

Any other ideas? I'll be pretty sore for a couple/few weeks I guess. Thanks so much!

Whatever the Doctor & dietitian recommend...Ask them.

Beer has a lot of nutrition.

Sorry! Couldn't resist!

Applesauce, oatmeal.

Frozen margaritas would probably work well.

I would add yogurt but wouldn't your doctor be able to provide you with the best foods for you? Even if something is easy to swallow it might not be good for your throat.

I am recovering from gall bladder surgery. I know not the same thing but I suspect they will have you on a liquid diet, and work your way up to soft and more solid food.

Custards go down easy.

Poor you!
Do you like yogurt? Applesauce? Oatmeal or farina?
That's what they gave me years ago when I had a tonsillectomy.
If you can handle the calories, cheesecake mashed is another option...or anything mashed for that matter...mashed potatoes.......

I don't see the doc until the day before, and that doesn't give me time to cook whatever needs cooking, hence the post asking for help.

Otherwise that would be a good idea.

A soft cheese omelet.

Baby food in a jar--I like Gerber's apricots!

Homemade egg custard with lots of vanilla.

Warm tea with honey.

Yogurt. Baby food. The choices are varied, from pureed fruits and vegetables to meats. I know, it sounds crazy, but they're easy!

All Day Energy Greens...or some other green drink. Not many calories, but a lot of herbs.

Mix it into a nice smoothie...yum...

When my friend's child had her tonsils, and adenoids removed, they said no milk products for six weeks because of the mucus it creates..just a thought.

Since the surgery is next week, you can call the doctor and ask tomorrow. And you could also call the hospital's dietitian and ask any questions you may have as well.
