Former Iranian General and assistant defense minister Ali Rez Asghari left Iran using a new passport and pseudonym and managed to smuggle important intelligence documents, according to a report published Friday morning by London based newspaper Asharaq Alawsat.
According to the report, the missing Iranian general was carrying documents and maps of Iran's military and intelligence infrastructure as well as information regarding the relations between the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hizbullah and the Islamic Jihad.

In addition, the general was reported to possess information regarding the Iranian nuclear program as well as information about Iran's strategic military plans.
Meanwhile, Turkish newspapers reported that three Iranians disappeared in Turkey, following allegations that they attempted to smuggle missiles into Iran.
Turkish newspapers reported Friday morning that the three Iranians, who owned Turkish companies operating, disappeared late last year following their attempts to smuggle spare used missile parts to Iran.
Reportedly, the attempt to export American-made rocket pieces to Iran, was foiled when Turkish customs informed the US authorities of the sale.
Turkish newspapers reported that the three Iranians disappeared shortly after the incident, last December.

Iran is furiously trying to debunk and downplay who this General Asghari is. Even though I take Debka with a grain of salt, they do have an interesting report today:
"The missing general has been identified as the officer in charge of Iranian undercover operations in central Iraq, according to DEBKAfiles intelligence and Iranian sources. He is believed to have been linked to or participated in - the armed group which stormed the US-Iraqi command center in Karbala south of Baghdad Jan. 20 and snatched five American officers. They were shot outside the Shiite city."
You're right. It just keeps getting better.

If he took "vital papers" it wasn't a kidnapping.

No it wasn't kidnapping - seems more like cold war, and someone is starting to play hardball with the Iranians. The increased presence of the US Navy in the Gulf, the news about guerrilla attacks in southern Iran, economic pressure, high placed officials defecting, agents abducted....
Finally someone seems to have found the old game plans used by Reagan, Weinberg, Casey in the 80s. Think Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Poland...

It goes to show that there are some people in high levels of the Iranian government and military who are very concerned with what's going on especially when it comes to the sock puppet who wears a dinner jacket and runs his mouth constantly.

Sounds to me like what the HR nazis at my company refer to as a "disgruntled former employee"...

Yes indeed. I wonder what the little munchkin will have to say about this, when he shows his ugly little face again.

Pelosi will call on Bush to make sure the papers are sent back, as a sign of good will.I think that would be an excellent idea. It would demonstrate our commitment to peace.
After we copy them appropriately, of course.

LOL... yeah, exactly.
When I first started working, they had "Personnel Departments", where employees could go talk with somebody if they had a problem with their boss and get treated with a little respect.
Then they became "Human Resources", and suddenly people felt less like a person and more like a battery or some other disposable asset.
Now the company's changed what we are to be called again, this time to "Human Capital".
I'm retiring in 329 days, and I guess that's when I officially become a Free Man.

Exactly what we should be doing, and in even larger doses. The mullahs have their breaking point too, and with enough internal strife and intelligence failures they can be taken down.
