"If this resolution passes the House and the Senate, the president could veto it, but then he wouldn't have any money," Murtha noted. "What we're trying to do is make sure people understand we're supporting the troops, we're protecting the troops, but on the other hand, we're going to stop this surge.
"The other thing we're doing is saying, no permanent bases," Murtha said.
"He did not elaborate but went on to talk about services enjoyed by U.S. troops in Iraq but denied to many Iraqis."
"Let's take, for instance, Saddam Hussein's palace - that's where our troops are living," Murtha said.

My blind, cancer ridden retired Navy husband would like to do the honors!
Thanks mewzilla.
Murtha is disgusting.
Lt. Jason Nichols from Baghdad recently sent me an email after listeniong to my show where I blasted William Arkin for basically saying the same thing.
In his email he stated:
I'm also enjoying listening to back-issues of your show while I do my programming after work.
To return the favor in a small part, here's an insight on the Arkin 'obscene amenities' comments which might help you.
"I'm in the IZ Embassy area, which has the best living conditions by far of any area in Iraq. This is b/c the Dept Of State is based here, and they pay for it all. But this is also where all the media is brought/based, so for many this is all they see of living conditions.
Few spend the night outside the IZ to see the much more common, and much more simple, conditions most guys have. So if they already have a bias, I imagine that provides fodder for them."
Thanks again!
Jason

Maybe Murtha should be forced to live with the troops outside the IZ and see if he has the same opinion then.
A firing squad would actually be more appropriate, but the leadership in this country doesn't have the backbone to do it.
Senile dementia or traitor? Or does it really matter?
Arrest him!!
I'll hold Murtha for him!
You'r on!
Ah, come on TeddyCon, tell us how you really feel about the traitor Murtha! LOL BTW, I agree.
One of ours told me he had actually stayed in Saddams palace. That was before he moved into a Sea Land container converted into a two unit apartment. Murtha needs to quit trying to use his somewhat questionable past and see the real world and stop his treasonous talk
The elephant in the room that no one discusses is why our representatives continue to journey to and from Washington in the first place, as if this was still the 1700s.
Existing technology would easily allow them to stay in their home districts, teleconference with fellow members, and cast their votes.
They could all head to Washington for events such as the State of the Union, but there is absolutely no reason at all for them to be working four days, flying home, working four days, flying home ... etc.
Well, there is one reason: if they lived and worked out of their home districts, they might have to have regular daily contact with those danged constituents of theirs. And I don't think they want that. At all.
The failure was not using these idiots' own words against themselves in the last election. The GOP needed to gut them with their own press clips and show the American people who they REALLY are.
All you are hearing are crickets. Coulda, woulda, shoulda in Nov 2006. The GOP doesn't get it. Accomplices to the 'Rats ... the sad truth.
As far as pissing on his grave, I'll add him to the list. I made my adult children swear to me 10 years ago that if I outlive clinton and am too infirm to drive there that they will drive me to his grave so I can piss on it.
But you know, it is typical of these mental cases. Here's Murtha accusing the troops of living in palaces. A similar case would be for someone like Barbara Streisand to accuse middle class Americans of living lavishly. The gall of these people never ceases to amaze me.
And you, Murtha? How does your household stack up against millions of fellow citizens?
"Murtha is a disgusting political whore infected with festering cankers of sedition"
Outstanding post.
