We hear all sorts of solutions for ending illegal immigration. Build a wall! Beef up border security! Fine employers, and create a massive guest-worker program. Or America could insist on tamper-proof identification cards, or detention, deportation or even amnesty for some illegal aliens -- or all of these measures somehow combined.

But ultimately the solution lies in the hope that a Tijuana might become as prosperous as a San Diego -- now a few miles away but a world apart...

It will be decreased temporarily when we declare all Mexicans and Central Americans to be American Citizens. That would be the ultimate "amnesty."

I hear you. I'm not trying to come across as defeatist. I'm just looking at our problem like a chess match. Our position is vulnerable. Thus far we've been unable to come up with an effective counter to a strategy that will beat us, given sufficient time. I just hope more people wake up before we've been worn down too far.

Yup. By replacing the Mexican "leadership" with our checks and balances it would greatly aid in eliminating the inherent graft and corruption throughout Mexican society.

Unfortunately most of the Mexicans I know favor a socialist solution to their perenial problems. Y'know: new boss, same as the last.

WE should prefer policies that send Americanized Mexicans home to Mexico over the path to citizenship idea. Heck, I would even pay them. Find out what it costs to deport one and offer them half the amount to leave.

One of the guys we've got hired on as a contractor is a legal immigrant with a ton of family still in Mexico. They are about as disgusted with the corruption down there as we are with our own politicians.

They seem to be stuck in the same position we are. They want the corruption gone, but no matter how they vote, they seem to end up with the same kind of politician in office regardless.

This isn't a failure of the people, it's a failure of the system. Ours works marginally better than theirs and thier adoption of our Constitution might just serve to wake up people here about what it really means.

Freedom is worth it, despite the bad press it gets from the socialist media.

It's only vulnerable because we haven't figured out a decent defense yet. Once the pawns start deciding things on their own, then maybe the rest of us will jump in and help.

The whole border issue makes me think of diffusion, things go from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration, and eventually you have equlibrium.

Give a tax incentive to every company that has business in China and Venezuela. They move their companies to Mexico and the illegals go home.

Cures to problems right there. Final problem is getting someone to earn 5 bucks an hour cleaning hotel rooms, washing dishes and picking fruit.

I agree. And in addition, impose heavy fines on businesses that hire illegal aliens, no education or medical benefits for illegal aliens...and they will deport themselves.

the only thing you can do is secure your property and protect yourself by any means necessary from intruders.

if Bush had secured the borders, started deporting the illegals, fined employers who hire illegals and enforced the immigration laws five years ago we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today.
