In need of help to a question about a proposed bill regarding Valerie Plame

This was just brought to my attention and I need help in understanding what exactly this Bill/Amendment is about.

I tried calling over to the House of Representatives .. but they said there was no one there to help explain the details of this bill/amendment.

They suggested I go to Thomas.gov .. but I already did that.

Can any FReepers out there help direct me in the right direction and find a better way to locate what this is?

Inslee introduced H.R. 501 yesterday, according to the Congressional Record. He said the loss of Plame Wilson's retirement benefits was one of the "human impacts caused by the indiscretion of government officials regarding" her covert indenity.

Here's an excerpt from the Seattle Times blog entry by their chief political reporter, David Postman:

Inslee held a small part in the Wilson/Plame saga. At was at a 2003 forum Inslee held in Shoreline that Joseph Wilson first accused someone in the White House of being involved in leaking the name of his wife. The forum was to look at intelligence failures leading up to the Iraq war. Wilson said at the event:

"I don't think we're going to let this drop. At the end of the day it's of keen interest to me to see whether or not we can get Karl Rove frogmarched out of the White House in handcuffs. And trust me when I use that name. I measure my words."

Slate later reported that it was that event that first raised the "question of whether to investigate who in the Bush administration blew Plame's cover."

Has anybody thought to mention that she outted herself - she gave to numerous Democrat campaigns and fundraisers, using her "covert" name - AND the name of her cover company. Talk about outting herself? She did it, over and over.

The woman is a ditz. Talk about not understanding the word, "covert".

She disgraces a very needed service within the CIA - the undercover agents who risk life and limb every day for our safety.

I am introducing legislation to allow Mrs. Plame Wilson to qualify for her annuity, as one who has served her country for two decades, and waive the age requirement for collecting it.

A suitable reward, no doubt, for her services...

And David Corn has admitted - on TV and in his book, that he is the one who "parked" on these statements by Wilson and started calling at every turn and whenever/wherever possible, for the naming of WHO in the Bush Administration has released the name of a covert agent, Valerie Plame.

I can't remember when David Corn also learned that the person who had inadvertently released Valerie Plame's name was the #2 guy at State, Richard Armitage.

But he admitted that knowing who had released it didn't stop him from calling for the Bush Admnistration to admit that someone in the White House had released the information - a false smear and he knew it.

If Fitzgerald were a prosecutor with any integrity, he would start arresting people for "conspiracy" - meaning those who knew it wasn't someone IN the White House but who were yelling "fire fire" and pointing to the White House!!!

Isn't that punishable, somehow?

Libel and slander are. I know that - and David Corn, for one, has been guilty of both. What a slime.

Could a person who has worked for say 25 years beginning at age 18 draw an early pension at age 45 because they were terminally ill? That should answer the question for Plame who is not terminal!!

I am more familiar with the rules of the old Civil Service Retirement System than the new FERS under which all federal employees who started in the last two decades or so are covered.

Under Civil Service there is disability retirement, which a person can get if there is no *suitable* job that he can handle given his health. IIRC, it is 40% of the worker's "top three" (the average annual salary of the top three years of employment.) That is substantially less than what someone who stays the full 30 years receives.

With 30 years of service I think a federal employee could retire at any time under CSRS. I don't know whether the FERS rules are the same or not.
