The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic invites all Freepers and lurkers in good standing, as well as other patriotic Americans, to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, January 27, 2007, for a rally in support of victory in Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terror, and a counter-gathering along the route of an 'antiwar' march later that day.
We are calling this gathering the Winter Patriots Rally. The anti-American left used the phrase 'Winter Soldier' during the Vietnam war in a propaganda campaign to get America to surrender to our enemies--not defeat them--by turning inside out a Revolutionary War call to patriotism by Thomas Paine.
We're reclaiming that call to patriotism and, sadly, Thomas Paine's words are as apt now as when he wrote them in December 1776:
THESE are the times that try men's souls.
The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated.
When: 10 a.m. SHARP, Saturday, January 27, 2007 through the afternoon. This is an all day action.
Where: Upper Senate Park, Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.
After the rally we will head down to the Mall area to stand along the 'antiwar' protesters' march route in the early afternoon.
Weather: Who knows? But we'll be there rain, snow or sunshine; warm, cold or frigid.
Bring: American and service flags as well as signs bearing messages of support for our troops, their mission and their Commander-in-Chief, President Bush.
Directions: Upper Senate Park is located at Constitution Avenue and Delaware Avenue, NE. It is next to the Russell Senate Office Building and directly across from the Capitol Building. Taking the Metro to the Union Station stop on the Red line is best. Street parking will be available as it will be a Saturday. Garage parking is available at Union Station.
As always, the D.C. Chapter's rules for demonstrating will be in effect. Briefly, they are: No violence, no profanity, no racism, no provocations, obey the law and treat all law enforcement officers with respect.
Please note: Our rally will not be on a grand scale. It will consist of a portable podium and a handful of speakers. After the rally we will walk down Constitution Avenue to a spot to be announced to gather as a group and counter-protest the 'antiwar' march after their rally. Please beware that if you attend the counter-protest you will be required to show the utmost restraint in dealing with the anti-American leftists marching by. If you do not believe you can control yourself in the face of their hatred for America, please do not attend.
Please send this notice to your patriotic family members, friends and co-workers. Veterans and military families (including Gold Star families) who support victory in OIF are especially encouraged to attend.
One more important DC Chapter ping...
Thanks.
I might be there that weekend. I am interested in going to the National Review Conservative Summit. Looks like a great line up of speakers. Plus it's at the stunning JW Marriott hotel. :)
NR doesn't have many details of the schedule on its site though. If anyone has more info, please let me know.
Hope you can make it.
FYI.
Bump for success and safety.
Pinging a few online friends to this event. Please excuse the double pings if you are on two of my lists; and please ping your friends.
So fun even kids (and the lovely Landry Fan) love to do it! (Click photo to enlarge)

BUMP!
Pings and Prayers UP!
BUMP.
possible, but doubtful, I need back surgery and cannot stand for long periods or walk more than 100 yards right now.
This is doable, it's at a fairly good size.
I better get going in my "free" time so I'm not rushed later.
Thanks.
[Mr] T
