I just cannot understand how ANY Republican could possibly support someone as liberal as Rudy. It's just incredible. Geeeez, he's just as strong of a "Clinton-apologist" as any Clinton ex-Cabinet member would be.

As a self-styled, "Bobby Kennedy" type democrat--the Republican Party might as well change its name if they nominate him. Especially given the fact that many in the traditional conservative base, like me, will leave and go third party (as you said). I know, I know---we keep being told that we are no longer needed in the Republican Party since the pro-Rudy crowd can easily dump the voters in the conservative base in exchange for moderate and independent votes. Oh well.

Ronald Reagan used to proudly exclaim, "I never left the Democratic Party--they left me".

Many of us will be using a slight variation on that thought, "I never left the Republican Party--they left me".

Yes, it says you will vote for anyone who has an R behind their name whether you agree with them or not. It says you have no principles or convictions. Loyalty to the Party above all else. Has a familiar ring to it.

So true. It's absolutely tribal. Iraq has its shi'ites and suni's. We have democrats and republicans. Very tribal. Relieves everyone of doing any critical thinking.

Rudy wears this ensemble well. His clothes closet must be "fabulous."

Rudy looks better in heels than Hillary, although his calves could use some lipo.

You are day dreaming now. Rudy supporters are not going to abandon him because some other GOP candidate has a better chance to beat the Dem. That won't happen unless Rudy performs poorly in the primaries and makes mistakes. If Rudy campaigns with his usual competence, 1) Rudy supporters are not going to change their mind, and 2) the assertion that somebody other than Rudy would have a better chance of beating the Dem is very far-fetched indeed and most unlikely to materialize in any ensuing polls during primary season (McCain would be the other possibility, but I think he will get beat up over Iraq and having an ersatz epiphany and deciding to pander to the religious right).

Why don't we try to change his mind on the 2A? There are a lot of things I like about him, but like you, he will never get my vote or support unless he does a one-eighty on the 2A.

If he flips for your vote in '08, would you really trust him not to flip again once he's in?

Thanks for the post! I'm joining up! I will freepmail everyone tomorrow when I have the whole Rudy ping list (there are too many to count on the list) and let them know to join up. A couple of Freepers who have set up Rudy Blog sites will probably want to set up a link to this Rudy website.

Newt for Pres and Rudy as V.P.?

I could do that. Gives Rudy a chance to convert to Conservative while in office.

Plus, it's a high-profile ticket with good name recognition.

I don't care what anyone says, Newt can win if he runs. Tancredo? No.
Hunter? Probably not.

But Newt has been through the fire, and has been a strategic mastermind at times.

"If he is the best choice the GOP has I will take him over any dem."

Rudolph is just as much an un-American leftist scumbag as Hillary. Anyone supporting either is a domestic enemy as far as I'm concerned.

Fine come shoot me then, I dare you, if I support Rudy because the GOP had no other option, better to have 1/4 conservative than to have a whole liberal. This is unless there comes a viable third party candidate.

"I just cannot understand how ANY Republican could possibly support someone as liberal as Rudy."

Possibly because what you perceive as "liberal" is most certainly not. By the way, Republicanism is, classically, liberal (you can look it up). You have fallen into the trap of mistaking "Progressive" for "Liberal". This, of course, is a perfectly understandable mistake, since I doubt less than 10% of any group could actually define liberal properly. P.S. Rudy is also twice as "Conservative" (on non-social issues) as just about anyone else who claims that mantle (you can look that up, too).

"Geeeez, he's just as strong of a "Clinton-apologist" as any Clinton ex-Cabinet member would be."

Milk just shot out of my nose upon reading this. Which is strange, since I haven't had any for days.

"As a self-styled, "Bobby Kennedy" type democrat--the Republican Party might as well change its name if they nominate him."

As it stands, the Republican party might as well change it's name to "Kiss-the-collective-backside-of-the- religious-bigots-in-order-to-get-votes-and-then-behave- like-democrats-anyways party" right now. Bobby Kennedy? PUH-LEEEZE?
I'm sure the "Reverands" Sharpton and Jackson would disagree with your Kennedy comparison strongly.

"Especially given the fact that many in the traditional conservative base, like me, will leave and go third party.."

Then do so, if you wish. That is your right. I'll even hold the door for you. Just remember how it worked wonders for you the last time you did it and followed Perot over the cliff.

"we keep being told that we are no longer needed in the Republican Party since the pro-Rudy crowd can easily dump the voters in the conservative base in exchange for moderate and independent votes."

Yep. The same people who used be known as "Reagan Democrats". Amazing how much you dislike them now, but loved them then.

"Many of us will be using a slight variation on that thought, "I never left the Republican Party--they left me"."

Nope. The republican party pretty much stayed where it always was, it's just that cultural conservatives hijacked it along the way (money and the ability to deliver blocs of organized votes is too attractive a package for a politician to resist sometimes, even when they know it's poison). The end result of this attempted larceny was the last Congress, and George "Jesus-is-my-favorite-political-philosopher" Bush.
