Okay, I picked out Gore, Kerry, & Edwards, and I'm pretty sure #4 is Hillary, but who is #5?

Maybe it's a problem with your firewall settings.

I'm not having this problem, but I do get 'bug.cgi' problems occasionally which is a direct result of my firewall.

Don't panic.

Whew! Ok, I won't! Think I'll do the happy dance instead.

I used to enter a time warp sometimes when I came here. I'd be reading the threads, then suddenly notice, whoa, these are all from the past. I'd be replying to somebody from 1998.

Oh, I just click accept when I see that one, and I also allow the cookie to be placed on my hard drive, too.

Only time that ever happend to me is when some newbie would sign up and respond to a really old thread. I'd be reading along and then realize the thread was from 2002 or so.

John's doing some work on the system and says it sometimes briefly slows down the database. No harm done. Will all be better soon.

A symptom of a slow database. I've now filtered it out of the results shown.

I've been reorganizing the structure of our data for a couple weeks now. A tweak here, a tweak there. The act of doing this is putting some stress on the system, causing slow downs. I'd normally make these changes in the middle of the night when the impact would be minimized, but, for whatever reason, I've been getting to bed at a sane hour. LOL

FYI, we're up to 72 gigabytes of data. Thems a lot of bits to fiddle with.

"I have had other problems at FR over the past few weeks."

Yeah, me too, especially the Rudy for president posts. Must be a bug in the scripts.

The funny symbols came about the same time the two major browsers had major upgrades. Either, or both, IE7 and/or FF2 possibly treat copy/paste text into a form differently since their upgrade.

I believe the problem is a difference between the encoding of characters sent by the browser and that which I expect. If a browser is sending me, say, Windows-1252 but I expect Unicode, then we'll have some problems. Etc. I made some changes to the HTML we generate and hopefully that will solve the mismatch. If I notice it continuing to happen I'll try something different, there are still options I haven't tried.

I haven't seen anything like that but my sign-up date when you mouse over my name has changed for the second time. Signed up back in 2000 on the night of the election, then it changed to Jan 01, 2001 now it's at 2003.

Anybody else have sign-up date changes in the last few days?
