I think Newt's got other ideas for 2008.
Okay, now we've got:
Asa Hutchinson
Mike Steele
Mel Martinez
Newt Gingrich
Anyone else?
Sorry, I missed your post where you told me what Atwater, Gillespie and Mehlman's position on immigration was.
Why is that?
It's because you don't know. Nobody does. It never came up.
It doesn't matter.
Whoever got this job will have to toe the GOP line -- whatever it is.
But scream your head off in frustration and ignorance. It's reaaaaal effective.
And it helps a lot.
Mel Martinez cleaned the Democrats' clock in his election, in a very big battleground state.

I bet that he don't do it again.
His LEADERSHIP abilities are mediocre. This is the moron who HANDED the "Terry Schivio talking points" memo to the ENEMY so they could claim it was all a GOP publicity stunt. This is the moron who flip flopped on Club Gitmo when he the bad ol' media confronted him on the issue. This is the moron who started speaking "en espanol" on the floor of the U.S. Senate for the benefit of TV cameras when the audience in the room actually had no clue what he was saying (Good going reinforcing the Democrats agenda to make America "bi-lingual", Mel) This is the "100% pro-life" moron who happily donated to pro-abortion liberals like Fritz Hollings and then conviently joined the GOP when it was politically advantageous to do so in FL.
The consensus has been universal on this forum that Mel Martinez has been a "disappointment" as Senator. And you wanna know why?
Mel Martinez is in the Senate for one reason and one reason alone, he has a "Hispanic" last name and the GOP needed him as their token "minority". Far more qualified candidates in FL were passed up in favor of Mel. His track record is extremely ho-hum and there's probably half a dozen cabinent members that would have made a better Senator than him.
Leave affirmation action to the Dems. Let the GOP pick minorities who have outstanding credentials and are the most qualified for the job. Michael Steele is a rising star. Mel Martinez is a GOP hack.
I'm against affirmation action and therefore certainly against this cipher getting promoted because his last name is "Martinez" instead of "Martin"
si se puede, cha, cha, cha
The racist remarks of the Bush haters re Senator Martinez show how stupid these people are. The Bush Derangement syndrome is a mind killing disease.
Senator Martinez got the top rating possible for a US Senator in 2005 from the American Conservative Union.

Standouts in the 2005 Senate
Best and Brightest
ACU is pleased to recognize those members of the U.S. Senate who recorded a perfect score of 100% in 2005:
George Allen (R-VA)
Sam Brownback (R-KS)
Conrad Burns (R-MT)
Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Mike Crapo (R-ID)
John Ensign (R-NV)
James Inhofe (R-OK)
Johnny Isakson (R-GA)
Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
Mel Martinez (R-FL)
Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
He went to Roman schools where he studied and learned the ways of his enemy.
The more things change,....
They don't call this the "stupid party" for no reason. Martinez is my senator and most time I forget that he even exists. I guess the Repubs have decided to give up on African-Americans and concentrate on Hispanics. We will probably end up losing both. Why are we so stupid?
Woo hoo! There's the two Oklahoma senators again!
Did you run the preliminary 2006 numbers yet? I have, and Martinez voted against the ACU position 3 out of 15 times (2 immigration) and was absent for a 4th (making English the official language).
The OK Senators are doing great.
It's time for the constitution party to come to light.
The President picks the person BUT he has to be approved by members of the National Committee. If they don't approve then he has to submit someone else.
Senator Martinez is pro-life, and he strikes me as a good man. I don't agree with him everything (including how to handle illegal immigrants), but this is not a bad pick for RNC Chairman.
A bump for your efforts.
It is bizarre and I have yet to figure out why pick a sitting Senator. I wouldn't want either of mine from OK in that seat because they don't have the time and they certainly are take no prisoners types.
I don't have that data yet nor does anyone else.
You have apparently done your homework.
Most of the piling on here is from the dark side of the Bush haters. They saw the last name and went for the jugular.
Uh, yeah,,,, almost forgot....
LINCOLN CHAFEE !!!
