Keep Darwin's 'lies' out of Polish schools: education official 2 hours.
WARSAW (AFP) - Poland's deputy education minister called for the influential evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin not to be taught in the country's schools, branding them "lies."
"The theory of evolution is a lie, an error that we have legalised as a common truth," Miroslaw Orzechowski, the deputy minister in the country's right-wing coalition government, was quoted as saying by the Gazeta Wyborcza daily Saturday.
Orzechowski said the theory was "a feeble idea of an aged non-believer," who had come up with it "perhaps because he was a vegetarian and lacked fire inside him."
The evolution theory of the 19th-century British naturalist holds that existing animals and plants are the result of natural selection which eliminated inferior species gradually over time. This conflicts with the "creationist" theory that God created all life on the planet in a finite number.
Orzechowski called for a debate on whether Darwin's theory should be taught in schools.
"We should not teach lies, just as we should not teach bad instead of good, or ugliness instead of beauty," he said. "We are not going to withdraw (Darwin's theory) from the school books, but we should start to discuss it."
The deputy minister is a member of a Catholic far-right political group, the League of Polish Families. The league's head, Roman Giertych, is education minister in the conservative coalition government of Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
Giertych's father Maciej, who represents the league in the European Parliament, organised a discussion there last week on Darwinism. He described the theory as "not supported by proof" and called for it be removed from school books.
The far-right joined the government in May when Kaczynski's ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, after months of ineffective minority government, formed a coalition including LPR and the populist Sambroon party.
Roman Giertych has not spoken out on Darwinism, but the far-right politician's stance on other issues has stirred protest in Poland since he joined the government.
A school pupils' association was expected to demonstrate in front of the education ministry on Saturday to call for his resignation.
None. It was the OTHER stuff that was wrong.
ROTFLOL!
When will you realize that your personal opinion is only your personal opinion? The objective fact is that the ToE was accepted by the scientific community as science on the same criteria as all of the other currently-accepted theories. There is no conspiracy.
Science cleans up after itself. The ToE would be gone now if your opinion were correct. The ToE has endured the test of new evidence and technology, and frauds perpetrated in its name (which were caught and denounced by the evolutionists). The system is self-policing.
The only way this self-policing is pushed near the breaking point is when there is extreme political pressure worldwide to come to a specific conclusion, which is what we're seeing with human-caused global warming. But there is still a lot of vocal worldwide dissent with hard science behind it. The ToE never had that kind of backing, and almost all of the purportedly scientific dissent comes from a small minority of religious-motivated people in the United States.
and every one of them operating under the intellectually lazy assumption that common forms mean common ancestry
Actually, ID says this too, only God did it.
It certainly does not deserve an exclusive hearing by law in the public school science classroom.
Basic common sense says you teach science in the science class. If you have something better and scientific, be my guest, get it accepted, and then it will be in the science class.
That's just an example, not a definition :-)
As it should be with non-falsifiable non-science. All it has to do is interpret the eveidence in sic ha way as to fit int opreconceived notions of history. Big deal. Granted there are scientific disciplines operating within limits that affirm evolution within limits. There is no scientific way, however, to confirm evolution in the wide sense, i.e. common ancestry throughout history being derived from simpler life forms. This is not just my opinion. Honest scientists know as much.
Actually, ID says this too, only God did it.
ID begins and ends with the assumption God did it, and from there is able to conduct scientific inquiry regarding how. ID is axiomatic for those who practice it. It also happens to have objective examples of intelligent design through which it may study the process and results of intelligent design. A multifaceted version of history concocted on the basis of unobserved, unrecorded events (except through reasonable inference) does not carry half the certitude of intelligent design and does not deserve to be called science in the strict sense.
What a pantload.
You are so full of crap, your eyes are brown.
What a pantload.
You are so full of crap, your eyes are brown.
And I assume you mean that in a purely natural objective philosophical supernatural subjective way.
No, as it is with a successful theory. It is absolutely falsifiable, but no one has yet been successful. What looked like falsifications (fossils apparently in the wrong strata) turned out to simply be fault thrusts, which are explained by geology. The ToE is interesting in that it uses the knowledge of several different areas of science, so a creationist attack on the ToE is often done by unknowingly attacking (like geology) or misinterpreting (Theory of Heat) another area of science.
There is no scientific way, however, to confirm evolution
By confirm, do you mean prove? If you want a proof, look to the formal sciences, as it doesn't exist in the natural sciences.
Of course. :-)
Exodus 34:28,Deuteronomy 4:13,Deuteronomy 10:4
And with that assumption, is makes itself religious, not scientific.
Thank you for confirming that for me.
Too bad it means exactly the opposite of what you think it means.
I'm sorry. And Biology is not a very useful science anyway. Good luck with that.
It fit his post very well.
Not 'a' definition; but the VERY definition!!!
Thanks!!!
I've learned something today!
NIV Exodus 34:28
Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant--the Ten Commandments.
NIV Deuteronomy 4:13
He declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.
NIV Deuteronomy 10:4
The LORD wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.
(Now I guess the question is why it's supposedly so hard to figger out the 10 from the bulk of the text)
What makes you think that evolution does not do this?
Evolution fits Poppers definition to a tee.
I know that upsets you, but making crap up, will not change the facts.
Evolution is scientific, if there was a hypothesis or theory that competed with it, then it would be debated, but there is no scientific hypothsesis or theory that explains the evidence as well as evolution.
And it was not a thoughtful literate point, because he made crap up, in order to do it. That is hyperbole, and nonsense, not thoughtful and literate.
The statement is full of crap because it is demonstrably wrong, and cannot be set right by any rational interpretation.
Forensic reconstructions are commonplace in courtrooms because they CAN be falsified.
