Rush reports that a Cessna has been reported as crashing into (at least one) apartment complex in NYC Mannhattan's upper east side - on East 71st Street.
Different type of fear altogether. The fear/altertness I referenced is particular to urban environments.
It's not wise to allow people to drive 18 wheeler trucks full of gasoline either, but we do. It's called "normal life". One of those driving into the lobby of that building and you would see serious carnage.
Just because the vehicle involved in this was an airplane lots of uneducated people panic. Get over it. Even in this case the thing hit a condo high rise and the only people killed were the airplane occupants. Same thing when the islamic idiot flew a Cessna into a building in Fla several years ago, killed himself and that's it.
During the Clinton administration another idiot (VRWC member, obviously) flew a Cessna into the grounds of the White House and killed just himself.
But let someone get out of control in a car and run into a crowd and you'll see some death and destruction. Little airplanes literally can't carry enough weight to be very dangerous.
Well, that's one way to take a loss to the Tigers...
Or drive his own truck stacked to the roof with barrels of gasoline.
Which do you think would more likely take down a building and kill more people: 1) a U-Haul truck, big one, filled past gross weight with barrels of gasoline and driven into the lobby of that building. or 2) a four seat airplane, filled past gross weight with every ounce it can hoist off the ground with gasoline flown into the side of the building?
Since the truck would haul, oh, maybe 25-35 times more gasoline, and it would go off inside the ground floor trapping everyone inside, I vote that U-Haul trucks are far more dangerous.
Oh, and how many potential terrorists are trained to drive airplanes vs. know how to drive a truck? How easy is it to get a U-Haul vs. get an airplane?
Come on people, think.
Fascism and communism always started in urban enviroments too. People should just sit back because nothing they can do is going to stop terrorism, and the chances of it happening to them are small. The one thing they can do is vote for politicans who will close this nation to muslim immigrants because if no muslims come to America the terrorism problem is solved.
"In World War II if someone did not want their freedom restricted and insisted on keeping all of their lights on in a blackout...that is a foolish person."
We did ... there were no blackouts on the east coast for months at the beginning of WWII.
How about this ? Restrict tourist access to the Statue of Liberty and paint a big target on it.
If we are destined to have a terrorist attack, I would sure rather they hit an empty copper symbol then a packed Yankee Stadium ....
Not surprising, considering the type of business that he built, becoming a self-made billionaire in the process.
People should just sit back because nothing they can do is going to stop terrorism, and the chances of it happening to them are small.
NYC is the world's center of capitalism. Despite popular opinion, no city is more pro-capitalism than NYC.
Folks in NYC aren't the type of "just sit back." If they see something happening or out of place, they tend to take action.
That is a good link. From the track, it looks like they took the left turn over the north tip of Rosevelt Island - pretty typical of the route back to the Hudson side. Going the other way it's: Central park, north tip, tower cab at LGA then south stantion of the throgs neck bridge. This is the standard helecopter transition route, and going west is the same backwards.
It is a puzzling wreck. Wx wasn't that bad and there was a CFI on board.
LOL!!!!!!!!
You owe me that last swig.
Well done. Glad I checked back in. LOL.
Why not remove age restrictions for driving? I'm sure plenty of 8 year olds could pass the licensing test, and then we shouldn't restrict them from cruising along highways at 65mph, because we shouldn't let our safety interfere with little kids who want to drive. And while we're at it, maybe should also drop all regulation of nuclear power plants too -- what business is it of ours if they're being operated by a bunch of incompetents and drunks who show up for work when they feel like it?
So if someone wants to fill a small plane with explosives and crash into a building like this one (no need to "go big", just terrorize), you're going to be ok with it?
I'm sure you never met anyone like that. Ever do carrier landings in the bar?
per Fox just now - the death toll has changed, report coming up after break
Both those things have killed way many more people than terrorism.
Well, you either have the ability to feel empathy for those who've suffered from terrorism or you don't.
Perhaps some of us just think about things differently.
Oh, and how many potential terrorists are trained to drive airplanes vs. know how to drive a truck? How easy is it to get a U-Haul vs. get an airplane?
The terrorists who flew the commercial jetliners on 9/11/01 had far more training than would be required to fly the aircraft involve in today's crash. Approximately 2-3 years ago a kid flew a small aircraft into a building in Florida to commit suicide. A terrorist could certainly do the same.
Come on people, think.
I suggest you take your own advice.
