OK...it was Texas Air National Guard out of Ellington they were F-16's - 2 of 'em. They were immediately sent out. And they're still up in the air.

3 more feet up and this plane would have caused a LOT more damage and could have killed many more. It clearly hit the brick spandrel, and essentially bounced back. If it had flew stright into the apartment it would have blown through the interior sheetrock walls and into the building public hallway. there is going to be a lot of dameg to the interior of this building due to smoke and water

Also just heard he'd just gotten his license.Perhaps new pilots shouldn't fly through downtown.
Prayers to his family.

It's just smart sending up the fighters nation wide. Until it was known for sure to be an accident, this could have been the first of dozens of small commuter planes preparing to crash into buildings nation wide. The oldest rule in the book, and one of the best. Better safe then sorry. Better to have the fighters up in the air and not need them, then need them, and not have them in the air. And I can hear the Democrats if it was terrorism and the fighters weren't scrambled. They were scrambled nation wide after 9-11 and the liberals attacked Bush saying they weren't scrambled fast enough.

Listening to Mike and the Mad Dog yesterday (a sports talk program here in NY), Corey Lidle had called in yelling at them about them misinterpreting comments he had made after the Yankees collapse against the Tigers in the ALDS. Lidle and the hosts got into it pretty good during the interview. You can tell that all of the parties involved were irritated with each other.
This is just WEIRD.

I will let slide the date mistake. But Rangel deliberately tried to blame the Bush Administration for this incident. And that I will not forgive.

I really hope no other Yankees are currently missing.

I didn't like the Yankees back then, and I was very young, but I recall when Thurman Munson died. Even then I knew the guy was an old-fashioned nose-to-the-grindstone kind of player.

Ditching in the water is the only choice if there is a choice to make. In the water, you simply glide in, and stall it into the water close to shore, then get out and walk or swim to the bank. Much higher chance of survival than pancaking into a building.

What seems strange at this point is that after 9-11 flying around NYC is carefully watched by controllers and the old routes you could do around the city have been drastically reduced. Used to be able to fly down the Hudson River and that corridor has been stopped (my understanding).

Sounds JFK Jresque.
NY Times says he'd been a pilot for only 7 months."
