This reminds me of President Bush's comment on 9/11 about "that must be one bad pilot" or something similar.

Wow....... no one should make a joke about him taking that playoff loss too badly.
Seriously, these small planes should not be allowed to fly over Manhattan.

I'm not defending anyone who claimed this definitely is terrorism, but...
If you choose to wait around for the government to tell you an event is terror related, before taking basic precautions or preparations, you are welcome to, but Charles Darwin may want a word with you.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Balance is good, extremes are less productive.

just because he talks with an accent - doesn't mean he is a thug.
and for sure, this accident will bring about stricter regulation of private aviation over manhattan. and it should.

It was Yankee Cory Lidle, apparently, not a terrorist. Small private plane.
Wikipedia already has him deceased with a picture of the plane. That's either very fast, or very gruesome. I'm not sure which.

IIRC, after Thurmon MUnson died, EVERY Yankee contract is now voided if the player is injured/died while flying in a private, non-commercial aircraft...

Also just heard he'd just gotten his license.

You're exactly right. All these posts that "It sounds like terrorism, must be a Muslim, who was flying the plane?..." etc. And now we find out the plane is registered to Corey Lidle. I didn't know Lidle was an Al-Quaeda operative.
I've been around aviation for too many decades. Crashes happen, and they have always happened since the 1910s, and they will continue to happen for many years to come. If this was a cornfield in Nebraska in the middle of nowhere, and the plane wasn't owned by a NY Yankees pitcher, nobody would care.
As it is, the media will take every chance they can get to whip people into a frenzy and scare the hell out of them over terrorism, because it's all about ratings for them.
The same media that will bash the government over not doing enough about terrorism will gleefully exploit anything they can remotely connect to a terrorist attack, and if it turns out to be a celebrity involved, it's just as good as far as they (and their bottom lines) are concerned.
Strategerist - you are right - some act like they want it to be terrorism, and some in the media seem to want stuff like this to be terrorist related as well, because terrorism sells ads, and the more they can scare people, the better.
It's unfortunate that there are people in this country who frighten easily, but thankfully we have many Americans who don't scare easily - a large number of whom are in the Middle East right now, making sure the terrorists don't get a chance to make it here.
