In the wake of school shootings in Wisconsin, Colorado and Pennsylvania during the last two weeks, a Wisconsin state legislator said he plans to introduce legislation that would allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons.
Rep. Frank Lasee, R-Bellevue, said Wednesday that, while his idea may not be politically correct, it has worked effectively in other countries.
"To make our schools safe for our students to learn, all options should be on the table," he said.
"Israel and Thailand have well-trained teachers carrying weapons and keeping their children safe from harm. It can work in Wisconsin."
Lasee stressed that the measure would hinge on school staff members getting strict training on the use of the weapons.

Bumping for sanity in our schools.
I wasn't aware of this reality until you posted this thread:
"This is what the old media does not want you to know :
" Israel used to have a problem with terrorist targeting their schools, until they armed the teachers. "
I teach social studies and have had similar incidences with freshmen and sophomores...I have stemmed a lot of the insubordination by reminding my students that, should the reason occur, that i WON'T opt for OSS (out of school suspensions) but that they'll go right to the resource officer (County Deputy) to be taken to jail. Just about all of my detention notices and their trips to the assnt. principal have been to 14 and 15-year-olds...I just cannot seem to get a handle on that age grouping. Their academic records are equally as bad--I recently taught a section on the European Enlightenment with a plethora of mnemonic devices to help them remember (such as Rousseau sounding like Roo-social for social contract) but the usual suspects were determined to fail and, naturally, did so.
I've always believed that, if it ever reached the point where we have to arm teachers to protect the students, it's time to close those schools down. If the school is that dangerous, we shouldn't be sending kids there.

Thanks for the help.
We are back !
It's not as if Ward churchill couldn't get a gun NOW and shoot up a school. Come on...
Why is that insane? Do you think there is a BUDGET for armed security guards? I could barely get textbooks this year! I have to PAY for my MANDATORY training this year. When I taught in Florida we had an 8 building campus each building having 3 stories. That's a LOT of security guards to cover the problem. We had 3 security guards when I was there and they weren't armed.
Unnngh....
Then you'd be closing all schools. Notice where the majority of these shootings seem to be taking place: Small towns like Pearl, Mississippi. This isn't a phenomenon associated with Los Angeles or New York City or Detroit.
Just as is the case in society, there simply aren't enough cops to cover the entire population. If there were..well...we'd call that a police state. Devoid of Freedoms. The only solution is to groom a few sheepdogs to stand guard over their friendly neighborhood sheep at every location. The sheepdogs must be properly equipped for their duties. When I carry a gun, I don't even think of it's physical presence on my hip, I'm so used to it. Because I'm so used to carrying concealed, nobody else knows I'm armed either. So sheep..ummm...folks aren't alarmed as they continue to graze...ummm errr...go about their business!
Freeped and bumped. 51-49
I believe in the second ammendment to the U.S. Constitution just as much as you do. I just think guns and schools is a bad mix. I agree with others on this post that fully trained professionals in law enforcement should be the ones carrying firearms providing security for our schools and campuses. I do understand that schools in general have become a zoo due to parental neglect in teaching their children/students the difference between right and wrong and parents must bear the lion's share in this failing. In this instance, what worries me is the possibility of a teacher becoming unhinged and shooting up students(two way street). That's why I cringe a little bit at the thought of schools/guns mix. If you look at my posting record, you will find that I'm just as conservative as you all. I did not mean to upset any of you, I just think schools/guns is a bad mix.

I hope I didn't come on too strong or offend. I just get my hackles up when people lump teachers all in the same pile. I hate having to leave my gun in my car every day.
Hopefully, no hard feelings.
None at all. and always Very Best FReegards, the lastbestlady,

" the possibility of a teacher becoming unhinged and shooting up students..."
This is possible, but it is not the reality of what is happening today in our schools.
The reality of what is happening is the just the opposite.
Having teachers and principals like " the lastbestlady " trained and checked out should be one small piece of the solution.
Very true, which just adds to the schools/guns bad mix.
The only instantaneous solution in this instance is screening and rescreening the security officials tasked with securing our schools.
Example: If a school security officer says he's having a bad day, another school security officer takes his place during that duty period.
I am aware there is no 100% cure for this vexing problem,
however, I am open to any sensible ideas or suggestions in confronting the school security problem. And I am open to your suggestions,
Very Best Regards,
