I dont think Ive ever seen a political conspiracy unravel as fast as this one that involves former representative Mark Foley.
Lets recap.
1. On September 29th Foley is approached by ABC NEWS about salitious Instant Messages with a former page and abruptly resigns. Four days later he turns himself into rehab.
2. Through investigation by several bloggers, including yours truly, it is discovered that during the last few years, liberal watchdog group CREW may have had specific knowlede of the IMs existance, and of Foleys activities, and might have possibly been in possession corospondence between Rep. Foley and former page(s). Additionally a known Republican Gay Outer, Mike Rogers of Blog Active was found to have materially participated in the IM messaging of Foley and admitted to have been on a campaign to out Foley since at least as far back as March 2005, and specifically attempted to threaten Foley in January 2006, thus may be guilty of using threat or intimidation to influence a US Congressmans vote on US legislation.
Yesterday Gateway Pundit uncovered that Mike Rogers had an a partner (although not known to be an accomplice at this point) in John Aravios of Americas Blog in a campaign against Foley as well. Gateway Pundit notes that there is no evidence that Aravios actually had specific evidence, but then holding evidence, and having knowledge of someone holding it are still crimes.
World Net Daily picked up on the story here, and puts together nicely what appears at this point to have been an orchestrated effort on the part of several leftwing activists to pull the trigger on this story just prior to midterm elections.
Additionally, while Mr. Foley appears by his resigning to have admitted to participating in IMing and emailing former pages, its not clear if all the recorded IMs are authentic. The FBI, which is looking into the matter, as I mentioned here, will use specific forensic analysist to determine if in fact the corospondence discovered so far is in fact valid. Already it has been discovered that several IMs may have in fact been tampered with.
At this point its not know the full involvement of those - or of others yet to be discovered - is. However, I do know that the specific focus of the FBI at this point is to determine who knew about Foleys activities, when they knew it and specifically who withheld evidence in what may be a Federal Crime. Yet like in many investigations, there is sometimes the uncovering of other crimes that takes place. It should be said at this point that the attempt to attempt to extort or influence, or threaten a US congressman, in order to infuence legislation, or an election is a Federal Crime, and if in fact principals were involved in such an orchestrated plan it will be discovered.
Again, I must point out that even as a constituant of former respresentitive Foley, I detest his actions, and do not condone and accept them in anyway. In fact I support his prosecution if applicable laws have been broken. But again, those who particpated before the fact in the outing of Foley, seem to have had at this point specific knowledge of his activities and if proven at the least are guilty of conspriracy to withhold evidence, and obstruction of justice.
We shall see as the day(s) progress.
That's because what you are saying doesn't make sense.
The GOP defending themselves against bogus allegations is exactly what they need to do - that is, for anyone who wants to see them retain the House.
The allegation is that the GOP leadership sat on explicit IMs and did nothing.
The Dems would like that very much if the GOP took your advice to just let those very serious charges slide. Let them slide for a few weeks until the charges are solidified in voters' minds. Any defense at that point will be a day late and a dollar short in the public's eye, and will be viewed a last ditch effort to play games. The Democrats would like that very much, indeed.
Hastert himself called for a full investigation of what happened, and THAT needs to be front page stories too.
I'm sure this could get me kicked off of Free Republic, but I don't give a rat's a** if Republicans hold onto the house. I want to see good people with good ideas who care about America first and party second in power.
LOL. You mean like the Democrats and their GREAT ideas, including making false allegations against their political opponents?
I am not making Foley a victim. But if you had seen this adult on TV you may see my point at least a little bit. He is now 25 or so. He was just saying all this stuff against Republicans. Please don't believe I have any soft feeling or anything for Foley. He has given us undue headaches for selfish reason.
"You mean like the Democrats"
No, I don't. Perhaps this is the wake-up call this country needs to realize that the two-party system, as it exists today, is destroying America.
We need to express our anger on Nov 7th.
Point taken. I'll check out the evening news.
The crime would be knowingly withholding evidence of criminal behavior. I'm sure the FBI investigation won't impact this election but I would take satisfaction in seeing some scumbags go to jail.
The Republicans are not defending Foley; the fact of the matter is that NOBODY is alleging Foley had any contact or ever intended to have sexual contact with these kids. It was not his intent, though CLEARLY what he did was unethical and immoral and revolting.
Of course he should be gone, and he is. That is the point: the Republicans DO the right thing by getting rid of him, but it is still never enough for the 'rats. And it belies the very behavior of the Democrats themselves who didn't give a crap about the young page who Gerry Studds *HAD PHYSICAL SEX WITH*.
I know of no one here who is not outraged by Foley's misbehavior, and he had to go quickly. If it proves an appropriate matter for prosecution I don't think anyone at FR will be standing between him and a jail cell. YET, when it so quickly becomes clear that various Demagogues and MSM hacks had more relevant info than probably ANY of the Republicans, AND that said Demagogues and MSM hacks sat on such info for 1, 2, maybe even 3+ years to save it for the most opportune moment a few weeks before a Congressional election, then yes it is highly relevant and important to look at the behavior of said vicious hacks and Demagogues. By THEIR own behavior they have proved that what they are concerned with is not "protecting our children" (else they would have acted on their info long ago), but solely with trying to smear all Republicans (right before an election) with Foley's scumbag behavior.
You should be a lot more interested in the low character and vicious behavior of such people who care not a whit about "protecting our children" but only about playing vicious politics with this matter.
Check out http://passionateamerica.blogspot.com. This Page may have already been 18 years old when this all took place. Again, it looks like a blogger is doing the work of the MSM.

A very insightful post!!
The publicity generated from this incident has been over blown, so the poor kid and his family did not get the privacy they asked for.
So you are correct.."vicious politics" seems to have trumped what is best for the boy and his family.

I seriously doubt 16 qualifies for statutory rape.
"Really, what was Hastert supposed to do? He is not Foley's boss. He couldn't expel Foley by fiat and it would have been called a Homophobic Witch Hunt. Remeber at the time that Hastert was made aware of the e-mails they were rumors. Try expelling a congressman based on rumors. Maybe the Big Tent wasn't such a good idea after all."
---I think Foley is the fly in the ointment RINO, though! Having since checked into a substance-abuse program, and having claimed childhood sexual abuse by a clergyman, Foley has beaten a predictable path to that last refuge of scoundrels: victimhood.
Saw Peolsi on tv today. She had a real nice genuine 'deer in the headlights' look on her face! Bahahahahaha.....

---Boy, ain't this the truth! Time to play a little pin the tail on the donkey. haha!
