Karl Rove's promised October surprise has arrived nice and early. Five weeks before the midterm election, a "previously undiscovered" video emerges that reminds the uninformed world that Al Qaeda carried out the 9/11 attacks and in order to combat them we must vote for security over liberty.
The video, supposedly obtained by The Times of London through 'a tested channel', shows Osama Bin Laden addressing followers at Kandahar In 2000. It also features "9/11 mastermind" Ramzi Binalshibh and Lead hijacker Mohammed Atta reading his will, along with Ziad Jarrah, the alleged pilot of flight 93.

ON SEPTEMBER 20, the State Department denied a visa to Muslim scholar Tariq Ramadan on the grounds that he had contributed around 600 euros to a French charity classified as a terrorist organization since 2003 because of its relationship with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas. This latest exclusion follows on the revocation of Ramadan's visa to live and work in the United States while teaching at Notre Dame in 2004, a step taken at the express request of the Department of Homeland Security. While the American Civil Liberties Union and the leftist literary group PEN, among others, present Ramadan as a moderate and accuse U.S. authorities of intolerance, the background and views of Tariq Ramadan suggest the government's move was entirely justified.
For starters, Ramadan is the grandson of Hassan al-Banna, founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, the highly influential Islamist organization born in Egypt in 1928. It was the Brotherhood that invented the now-familiar Islamist modus operandi of covert organization, assassination, and extremist theology. Its goal was to overthrow the Egyptian regime, install a fundamentalist Muslim government, and impose sharia (Islamic law) as the new constitution. Tariq's father, Said Ramadan, was a major figure in this organization, expelled from Egypt by Gamal Abdul Nasser for Islamist activity.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The more people on guard against suspicious activity in this era of mass casualty terrorism, the better. That’s the rationale behind the Highway Watch program, first initiated in 1999 and boosted nationally after Sept. 11, 2001.
"We have well over 100 companies involved in Highway Watch in the state," said Susan Webb, Highway Watch state coordinator with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association. "There are 15,000 (drivers involved with Highway Watch in Wisconsin) and 400,000 in the whole country."
Highway Watch trains transportation workers how to identify suspicious activity on the nation’s massive system of roads and highways. The program is administered by the American Trucking Association and WMCA under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, but is mostly administered at the state level.
"Training can be done by classroom or by video," said Webb. "It takes about an hour."
Because transportation workers often drive on the same routes, they are familiar with potential terrorist targets, such as nuclear power plants, chemical facilities and transportation infrastructure.
"Often they go to the same places and so they’ll recognize if somebody is taking pictures of a bridge, that type of thing," said Webb. "It trains the drivers in what to look for as far as potential terrorist or criminal activity."
Highway Watch trainees are each given an identification number and a special phone number to call to report suspicious activity.
"They are told how to make a report, as far as what type of information is important," said Webb. "Truck drivers know where they are, they know right where they are all the time."
Webb said truck drivers make good Highway Watch volunteers for another reason, too.
"Most truck drivers are patriotic and they want to help keep our country safe," she said. "Some don’t know about the program, but once they find out they want to be part of it.""
