And all this time I thought it had to do with a "log" in a "cabin".

"If their main purpose was fiscal conservativism, why not just be "regular" Rs?"

Because most "regular" Rs would not accept openly gay people in their party. And as I said in the last post of course openly gay people who believe their homosexuality is "normal" for them are going to fight for other folks being open about their sexuality. In other words, of course log cabins are going to promote a gay agenda otherwise they would be "regualar" Rs . I am sure there are plenty of gay "regualar" Rs who are not in the Log Cabin group and they most likely do not attempt to promote the gay agenda. These are the folks you probably don't know are gay.

I did not know that the log cabin repubs were called that because of Honest Abe.

I just read the IMs ABC has that purport to be Mark Foley's emails with a person under the age of 18.

I am glad he resigned. And every member of Congress ought to be on notice: this kind of crap is totally unacceptable.

Bill Clinton should have resigned, too--but he refused.

Republicans, by and large, boot their people who have a brush with bad behaviour. Democrats fight to the death for their sickos.

Let's make lemonade out of a lemon, folks: what Foley did was wrong, and I am sorry a man with an ACU lifetime rating of 78 is out--but this ought to put people in our party on notice: watch your step.

Let's not Clintonize the Republican party. He's one of the reasons I left those socialists, after all.

I want to stay conservative, and that is why I am a
Recovering_Democrat.

"Well if they are from '03 someone thought enough to keep the archives but Foley *WAS* up for election back in 2004 (all House members are reelected every 2 yrs) which makes this all that much more peculiar. If they truly thought there was a sexual predator in congress, keeping it hidden for 3 years is more than a little bit irresponsible."

EXACTLY!

Tech. folks will argue that it's server lag; however, I am pretty attentive to detail and NEVER could fire off two lines of text [text + enter ... text + enter], which resulted in a duplicative timestamp (and that's back in the days of dial-up modems).

Their lying contention that Abraham Lincoln was "gay"

Of course he wasn't gay. But he did originate the mullet.

Sweet Lincoln's mullet!

"but we don't have much say in who folks vote in that are not in our districts or states. I am surprised that you don't know that."

I haven't the foggiest idea what you're talking about, and it's quite clear you didn't know what I was talking about, either.

Believe me you, I am not trying to make excuses for Foley, but I believe this part of the story is unbelievable for the reasons stated in previous posts.

This guy's a moron, and the fact that he resigned so quickly tells me there may be even more stuff to come out. At any rate, good riddens, we don't need him. It's still a Repub district, the RNC should find someone post haste and spend a wad of cash on ads.

"Using your logic, no Mormon would hold office outside of Utah, no Catholic would hold office outside of New England, etc."

Straw man, and a very poor one. You're equating one's religion or religious following with 'value systems', and they aren't the same. One may influence the other, but using your example......Mormons, Catholics, Baptists, fundamentalists, Church of Christ, etc., etc., etc. share a belief system.

Let me be blunt. Someone who defines their worldview by an intense desire to be identified as someone who likes to take it up the *** from another male does NOT represent me or the overwhelming majority of Americans. Period.

Short and I guess to the point!

"Regardless, I'm starting to think that every time I post to this thread my IQ will drop (another) 4 points! :O)"

LOL...you and me both. The bottom line is this crap should not be happening in our party or anyone else's. CAN WE HAVE SOME NORMAL PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON....PLEASE!!....LOL

My hubby and I were talking and agreed that if we find out that any republicans were helping to hide this sort of crap, may they go down in disgrace and the hell with holding on to Congress. This whole thing makes my skin crawl.

""Representative" does not mean you vote the way the majority of your constituents believe. A representative is chosen to represent the people, and to vote his or her own conscience."

[...insert low whistle here...] Let's just say that you and I have VASTLY different ideas of what a "representative Republic" is and should be.....and leave it at that.

"What a small minded view you've got there."

Oh spare me. I'm sick and tired of being told how I'm supposed to feel about gays and gaydom. NO thanks, pal. You just go be "open minded" and march into the Castro District of San Francisco and give 'em all a big ol' hug for me, k? Save me the snide remarks.
