Ky. Plane Crash Survivor Asks 'Why?'
By JEFFREY McMURRAY The Associated Press Wednesday, September 6, 2006; 10:47 PM
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The sole survivor of a plane crash that killed 49 people near the Lexington airport last week told family members from his hospital bed, "Why did God do this to me?" but he hasn't mentioned the crash, a close family friend said Wednesday.
James Polehinke, who was the flight's co-pilot, can move only his head, and tears often well up in his eyes, said Antonio Cruz, Polehinke's mother's boyfriend. He said the 44-year-old has been in and out of consciousness.

You know I understand a bit of what this guy is going through. My sister was in a major care accident 6 years ago. She and a 16 year old girl hit head on going normal speeds. They both had blind spots and saw each other when it was to late. The report was that it was both of their faults. Anyhow, my sisterhung onto life and was in and out of consciousness for a few day while this 16 year old girl died on impact. My sister knew without being told it was bad and she would wake up in and out with tears flowing down her face. When she finally recovered she asked about the other driver. We had to tell her the horrible truth. To this day she prays for the mother of that 16 year old every night as a family sitting down for dinner. She feels responsible even though it was truly an accident.
I pray that this guy will know the comfort of the Lord Jesus and not live with a broke heart forever.

This person is going to have an extremely difficult time ahead of him. On top of dealing with the tragedy, he is going to have to re-live it over and over as the company, FAA and Lawsuit depositions take place over the next 5-10 years....

His response is understandable. Imagine how darkened and meaningless life would be if you were an atheist like orionblam, and how that would leave you cynical. Perhaps we should add one more person to our prayers this morning....

It is to You, O Lord, that we return with thanksgiving that You are the God of All Comfort. Be so very near to this one who has survived, when all others did not. Bring him through these days of recovery to the place of healing for his mind and his body and his spirit. Draw his focus upon Your Word, that he might know that You are Sovereign ... touch his body that he might know that You are the Great Physician. Comfort the families and friends who must deal with their horrendous loss ... grant them strength, courage, and hope that they might rest in faith in all they do not understand. In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen ...

Have you tried having faith? If not, how can you judge it in others?

Or if you were an ignorant fibber like Theo.

Indeed it is. The plane crashed because it took off from a runway that was too short, due to pilot/air traffic controller error. No miracles need invoking to explain "why." Nevertheless, when people get into situations of *extreme* distress, reason tends to go out the window, and they fall back on mysteries and the supernatural to explain things.

One word (and a relevant one at that) is "sniffy and condescending?"

Having faith in cause and effect? You betcha. Works like a charm. Take off from a runway that is shorter than your aircrafts takeoff roll... well, cause and effect comes into play here.
