NICOLE Kidman has made a public stand against terrorism.
The actress, joined by 84 other high-profile Hollywood stars, directors, studio bosses and media moguls, has taken out a powerfully-worded full page advertisement in today's Los Angeles Times newspaper.
It specifically targets "terrorist organisations" such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Palestine.
"We the undersigned are pained and devastated by the civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon caused by terrorist actions initiated by terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah and Hamas," the ad reads.
"If we do not succeed in stopping terrorism around the world, chaos will rule and innocent people will continue to die.
"We need to support democratic societies and stop terrorism at all costs."
A who's who of Hollywood heavyweights joined Kidman on the ad.
The actors listed included: Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Danny De Vito, Don Johnson, James Woods, Kelly Preston, Patricia Heaton and William Hurt.
Directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Mann, Dick Donner and Sam Raimi also signed their names.
Other Hollywood powerplayers supporting the ad included Sumner Redstone, the chairman and majority owner of Paramount Pictures, and billionaire mogul, Haim Saban.
Making Saladin into some "noble statesman of yore" instead of the Butcher of Jerusalem is beyond the pale.
I'm in agreement...I'll not watch anything he's involved in now. What a jerkoff he is. These guys make lots of money...then these jerks show true colors....I've blacklisted him....
Well maybe for some mentioned in the article, but Jimmy Woods has been a supporter of the WOT since the getgo.
Maybe they realize Hollywood standards ain't exactly number 1 on the Islamic hit parade
Notice the advertisement only complains about Hamas and Hezbollah... the more immediate threats to Israel. Saying you want to stop terrorism is kind of a no-brainer. Even our most ridiculous liberals like Michael Moore probably want to stop terrorism. Hell, I bet terrorists want to stop terrorism on some level. Of course they'd just prefer we all rolled over and died so they could end terrorism, but I digress here to much. Point is... this is a good advertisement, but it's pointed directly at a special interest group of the left that may very well be eyeballing the GOP side of the ballot this year for President Bush's undying support of Israel. |
And that's a good thing! Redheads freckle or burn.
AMEN! Is what I pray for too.
Why not pick out one of the others not a word about them hardley.I didnt say it wasn't good.Wizzer
But probably the SMARTEST thing she ever did!
She rocks. Cute, too.
Me too! We forget that not everyone in Hollywood is insane. Good for her, an A+ for courage!! And the rest too.
Regarding your comment - a broken clock is right twice a day. We need a culture where actors (and actresses) opinions are meaningless, because frankly, they are entertainers, not heros, not role models. What we have now is a cult of celebrity - and I don't mean that in a good way.
This may be the first thing Saban and I agree on. This guy is a major Clintonoid. Even worse -- he is the schlockmeister who gave America Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Douglas Suprised me but Hopper did not at all, he has been vocally Conservative for a good many years now. (Well Conservative for Hollywood anyhow.)
re: Bruce Campbell - just wanted to slip in a plug for the new DVD release of "The Adventures of Brisco County Junior" (1993). It's one of my TV favorites, and, sadly, another example of a terrific TV series killed by the networks before their time.
Is this the "New Hollywood"? Pro-Israel and anti-terrorism and therefore, more pro-Bush than anti-Bush than they would care to admit?
I didn't see Kingdom of Heaven and don't intend to...but consider this: A lot of people are under the (not completely wrong) impression that the Muslims who lived in some of the locations where all three monotheistic religions mixed were a completely different breed of Muslim than the ones that follow Osama. When they make those people look good, they may be trying to say, "See, this is what it could be like if we all just tried to get along!"
Of course, that doesn't excuse Christian-bashing, or even Crusade-bashing, since the Crusades were a response to Muslim invasion.
More pro-Lieberman, perhaps????
I was surprised until I read the list of names...most are Republicans.
Go get a freakin CAT scan. Your brain is screwed up.
Awesome post Frank, thanks for the ping. Heard Gary Sinise on Eileen Byrne's show (WLS out of Chicago) and he allowed her to talk about CSI-NY for about ten seconds, then all he's talk about was pro-troop stuff. He's awesome.
