President Bush addressed the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People -- after five years of invitations -- and blew it. He pandered, he condescended, all to show blacks that, yes, the president feels your pain...

Don't they realize that if something happened to the Prez and VPrez that Condi would be it?!? Nope, and for good reason. The order of Presidential succession is VP, Speaker of the House, President pro tempore of the Senate, then the Sec. of State.

Let's compare. Bush has addressed the NAACP once in 8 years. Reagan Addressed the NAACP twice in 8 years.

I see the Bush apologists wasted no time to scold Elder for his correct criticism of the President on this. Elder is wrong. Bush showed up, said a few niceties, then left.
He wasn't invited there to read the riot act.

Nobody's perfect, not even Reagan.
To: Southack
It wasn't pandering, the reason he went was so the next group of Republicans don't have to start their Administrations off with the cloud of a previous administration having snubbed the NAACP.
That being said, we all know the NAACP is a racist organization that is race obsessed. They need to thinking of themselves as Americans and not a color to begin the rest of their journey toward the American dream.

You do one, you have to do them all, lest you piss off some interest group.
Be happy that Bush calls in, as Reagan did.

Every president has addressed the annual convention of the NAACP since its inception. Up until the appearance Bush was the only no show.

Bush, the most pro-life president this country has ever had
If by pro-life you mean allowing the continual operation of thousands of extermination camp / eugenic centers to thrive across America (called "fertilization clinics" in newspeak), then yes he is very pro-life.

Well he should have -- he should have told those self-proclaimed victims to get off their lazy butts and become upstanding Americans, not to remain a bunch of leeches that require PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT AND PANDERING for their votes --- like Bush's Mexican friends!!!
I think my position on politicians pandering for votes is quite clear.

I'd just assume conservative Presidents not waste their time speaking at such an organization.
To: sinkspur
Exactly. The man is the President, of ALL Americans, yet some folks would only be happy if he got in front of this particular group and said "Why do you morons consistently vote for the party that wanted to keep you as slaves?" But then, he'd be insulting those Republicans who are still fighting the Civil War, too, for bringing up THAT subject.
Nothing Bush could say at such an event would satisfy some people--nothing. And not going would achieve what?

Contact your congressman as he is the one who moves legislation.

I'd just assume conservative Presidents not waste their time speaking at such an organization. When you get to be president, you can turn down the invitation.

So Larry Elder is going to say?: "Thank you Mr.President for your kind words."
If he said that he would be out of a job. "Deny, deny and deny some more that anybody is helping you, because if you don't, we will find someone who will keep up the denial game. You will be on the outside looking in if you don't comply."
