Dixie Chicks Economics 101 - A Lesson In Stupidity
ExposeTheLeft Forum ^ | 06/28/06 | Unkown - Not my own

I've simply copied over some interesting comments that occured at the included link. I thought it was some very well thought out commentary.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Some things on this thread I want to remark on.

The Dixie Chicks only got a “new” label when they settled their lawsuit with Sony in the sense that they were given their own label name. Open Wide Records is their own label name.

As part of their settlement with Sony (which has since tranferred their promotion to Columbia) they agreed to 20% royalty of album sales but before they receive any royalties from the album, they first have to pay for all the promotional costs of their album. So all of this advertising your seeing to sell the CD definitely comes at a cost to them. Not to Sony/Columbia – it comes out of the Dixie Chicks own pockets.

At one point I read calculations that pointed to “Home” beginning to pay royalties to the Dixie Chicks at roughly 6 million in sales. On this new album, I haven’t seen figures of promotional costs but my guess is, despite the “free advertising” of the mainstream media, they have high costs associated with promoting and producing this album.

This album is promoted as being written by the DC but there are at least 13 other professional writers who worked with them closely to pull it together. Plus Rick Rubin and while I don’ t know what he’s paid, I don’t imagine it’s “economical”.

Which brings us to the DC’s tour. Over half of the US concerts have been cancelled or postponed (most without new dates) due to poor ticket sales.

The Dixie Chicks have a large entourage for this tour.

Including Natalie Maines' personal chef:

I call them the Ditzy Twits because of the way they have screwed up their lives.

Wonder what Imus got for humping the thing for three days?

See post 13 and figure that "humping the thing for three days" was either a centerpunch in the bullseye or a poor turn of the phrase...

I am really going to enjoy watching a "where are they now" episode of them in 15 years.

Performing with Linda Ronstadt in various locales...

This whole thing is out of their stupidity.
They played to the wrong crowd to be trashing our country.
Rock? - maybe, RAP - for sure, alternative? - I guess, Country? - just stupid.

If the two sisters were smart they'd throw Fatalie, er, I mean Natalie under the bus, hire a new lead singer and start at least to pretend that they like the fans who made them a success-the ones nat called "rednecks".

Howard Stern had them on his show a couple of weeks ago-natalie "admitted" that she doesn't wear panties, and one of the sisters "admitted" to a "2 on 1" incident with a couple of guys-I guess they were playing down to the level of howie's audience. He reruns shows on the weekends-and he has been replaying the show with the dcs ad nauseum every weekend. He is really pushing them and their agenda-but it doesn't seem to be helping them much.

At least one of the sisters is making outrageous statements right along with Natalie.

"Wonder what Imus got for humping the thing for three days?"

Probably another gold-plated diamond encrusted Steinway for his retirement ranch.

If your business isn't politics, keep your politics out of your business.

It's really that simple.

Not a good living when it comes to Natalie, but there must be someone out there desperate enough.

My dog isn't picky, he would probably be happy with the opportunity, but he never has any money of his own, and this is one time I wouldn't lend him any.

natalie "admitted" that she doesn't wear panties

I wonder if it's because they don't make 'em in a big enough size for her wide load, or if it's because the "loin lobsters" keep eating holes in them?

I noticed on this site, alot of blogs by obvious liberals that the Dixie Chicks had #1 album on Amazon, so many album sales, blah blah blah. But how many times do promotions at record companies buy up their own product to make it appear it's a 'hit'.

The fact that noone is actually showing up to see them is an indicator that they really didn't 'sell' that many albums. Someone said on there that Mrs X doesn't want Mrs Z to see them go, and appear unpatriotic. Bullcrap.

And furthermore, how many liberals bought the album merely to 'support' their fellow nincompoops, but don't actually care much for the music enough to endure it for two hours.

I actually LOVED the Dixie Chicks music. But that idiot has turned me off of her so much that I can't stand to listen to them. Not JUST for what she said about the President, I could have gotten over that. It's the way they acted and THEN flipped me off (basically) afterward.

The sisters are just as skanky as Natalie...

You often see a record label sue an artist for failure to deliver a contracted album on time, or some other breach of agreement. I was wondering how it was that the DC's hadn't been sued by their label. After all they have destroyed a lot of value by getting political.

The DC's may have avoided getting their collective behinds sued off by simply agreeing to terms very favorable to Sony/Columbia.

Miranda Lambert could do it. She sounds similar and looks way better than Natalie. She has the vocal chops and the talent, but I don't know if she would be willing to walk away from a promisiing solo career to be part of a group, even one that had reached superstar status prior to this brouhahah. But then again, she might. Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen when his own solo career was pretty hot. So it could happen.

I suggest they start adding dates in Damascus, Tehran and Gaza. Seems more like their kind of crowd these days.
