LA Times Accuses Traditional Christians of 'Fixation on Sex and Gender'

June 23, 2006

Let me share a little trade secret. Any time I'm on the prowl for something to write about, I go to the editorial page of the Los Angeles Times. Almost invariably the journey is rewarded with a remarkable liberal morsel.

Take this morning's editorial - 'Battling over Bishops' - in which the Times decides to wade into the controversy roiling the Episcopal Church. Here's the kernel of the Times' argument

"What both controversies [over homosexual and female clergy] have in common is not only a fixation on sex and gender but also the challenge of deciding what religious practices can and should change with the times."

The Times unwittingly offers a good illustration of the liberal understanding of religion. For liberals, religion is not much different at all from politics. You've got to adapt to the times. Immutable truth through revelation? How utterly quaint!

The Times closes with this observation-cum-fond wish:

"Many, though not all, members of that faith have accommodated themselves to what was once seen as a heretical idea, without compromising what they see as the essentials of their faith. That experience can only give heart to advocates of other kinds of inclusiveness in the church's ordained ministry."

I'll stick with my common reply to such nonsense: "God's Church was made to change people's lives; not change itself to suit people's lives!"

Actually, this is all good. They continue to marginalize themselves more and more by the minute. The editorialists are writing for each other, not Americans.

The liberal idea of good religion is one that's value free and non-judgmental. Otherwise, its rigid, harsh and intolerant.

I couldn't find the LA Times as a publicly traded company.

This is the NY Times over the last 5 years, however:

That's purty. Too bad so much short-selling opportunity has gone by, but otherwise, just a picture from paradise.

As usual the leftist socialist revolutionaries got it backwards.

Traditional Christians Accuse the LA Times of Fixation on Sex and Gender. The LA Times is obsessed with sex and gender to tell you the truth; perhaps it is the LA Times folks who are "owned" by the sodomite crowd.

The LA Times belongs to the Chicago Tribune Corp.
Two of the same when looking at Wycliff's diatribe in the 6/22 Trib.
Of course they, liberal Democrats, denounce out of shielded sanctuaries as Wycliff did from his Notre Dame base, and then go into hiding when challenged by his attacked object O'Reilly to openly substantiate their revelations.

poor l.a. times...always trying to finesse the realities of
life into their sophmoric world view....

1) Oh, Christians are fixated on gender and sex (like Hollywood,
teenagers, adults, and seniors aren't?)

2) To them religion is just an organized set of beliefs , like
whether to follow the Julia Child, or Emeril set of
cooking style. So analyze it as such. Meanwhile the choice
one makes affects your whole life, and after-life, and
serious believers know that. Only the Times doesn't

3) The Times thinks they are non-judgmental and inclusive,
and are therefore "right", however they are judgmental
and exclusive against anyone who they disagree with
(otherwise, why do they need editorials, or make
recommendations for voters?).
They are the greatest of hypocrites.

4) They love to tweak religious people for their faults.
It must assuage their own fears and faithlessness.

For liberals, religion is not much different at all from politics.

Not quite correct. For liberals, religion is no different from politics. It's a seemingly minor distinction, but an exceedingly important one if you want to understand what's going on in the various mainstream Christian denominations today.

Traditional religion is really no more than another rival to the secular/political viewpoint that drives the left. It's easy to lose sight of this if you focus solely on the line of battle -- for example, there are many on the left who are also sincere Christians.

But once you step back to look at the big picture, the leftist political motivations are too obvious to ignore.

Having grown up in the Episcopal Church I know how tolerant and liberal an institution it is. The church has always been open to gays. The problem today is that many newly arrived gay Episcopalians are attempting to make the Church a beacon and a political stage for their movement. This is not acceptable to many in the church who are leaving in droves for new Anglican Churches which are being founded all over the U.S. The rallying cry is: "Who wants a bishop in a pink robe?"
