"I Lost My Job to China"
PanAsianBiz ^ | June 4, 2006 | Dr. Bill Belew

Everybody looks for a scapegoat.

You would think that Americans who have lost jobs in the past year or so would be more likely to want to blame ...well, China. Everything else that goes on is blamed on China, right?

But that is not the case.

52% of the general public thinks that severe job loss is due to China.

Only 4% more of those who lost jobs this past year blame it on China. (56%)

33% of the public thinks moderate job loss is due to China.

Compare to that 27% of those who lost jobs last year who think the same thing.

Still, a whopping 80+% think that job loss severe or moderate is due to work heading to China in one way or another.

What do you think?

He'd better learn Spanish quick, or he's going to lose that job too.

Wah, wah, wah! We're the US of A. We don't cry. We adapt. We win. If you whining about China then you're too weak to live in a free and dynamic country like the US of A. Put a diaper on and move to France.

I wonder what the specialization of the US is?

Prosperity, abundance and productivity.

60%-75% Americans, 25%-40% illegals. Do you have a point?

Rather, outsourcing enables each country or region to specialize in goods/services where it has a comparative advantage

We have experts in Walmart Greeting and in Fast Food lyrics....like 'fries with that?"...want it "Biggie sized?" And in Walmart...the greeters are SO QUICK! "Is that a return? Here let me ticket it....click click.." And your done!! I noticed how good they are getting at doing these jobs...so perhaps you are correct.

what is the US specialty....by reading all of the posters I would think it is buying Japanese Cars and saying that it is okay for China to not open its economy.

It's a pity you never measured up to your family's lowest expectations.

Yes. A lot of what we export is actually produced by illegals. 25% is HUGE, and that is the lower end.

But my more important point is WHAT we export as opposed to who produces it.

Every single day I get calls from recruiters asking me to quit my engineering job and move to another.

Your friend should get with some good head hunters...

"Why should I pay an American $20 to do a job when I can pay a China man $5? I'm patriotic, but I'm not that patriotic. "

Glad the founding fathers who risked everything did not have this attitude. How about configuring the manufacturing process so that the $20/hour person can produce 4 times the product? That is how you GROW business and an economy.

The MBA cookie cutter, bottom line types being cranked out of our business schools will never understand this method of growing a business. They are taught that the sole reason for a business to exist is to satisfy the stock holders. Well, piss off enough customers and employees and the stock holders will find out real quick that a 18 month payback on new equipment is not realistic.

The last 3 companies that I worked for (yes past tense) all fell into bankruptcy due to the original founders stepping aside and some MBA dip $hi! running the business focusing on the next quarter's report. The bottom line improved for 1.5 to 2 years and in year 3 all failed.

MBAs = terrorist of American business.

Probably a result of your bosses asking them to get you out of their environment.

So you have no clue? Do you want me to find out for you?

That is interesting considering that a family friend's son just got a job as an engineer making a little less than 70,000.

Maybe your friend should look harder.

That suks, but...it happens all the time.

I live in an old mill town, it was a thriving, wealthy place where everyone had a job. Then the f-ing southern states figured out how to make clothes cheaper, and guess what, everyone was fired and the mills are abandoned.

Life doesn't provide cradle to grave jobs, (except for gubmint)
