HILL DRIVE FOR '55' ( National Maximum Speed Limit )
New York Post ^ | May 24, 2006 | IAN BISHOP

Posted on 05/24/2006 3:25:12 PM PDT by george76

- In a surprise move yesterday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called for "most of the country" to return to a speed limit of 55 mph in an effort to slash fuel consumption...

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And wherever it can be required, and the people will accept it, we ought to do it," Clinton said at the National Press Club.

Looks like she thinks the Algore movie will have an effect. Or at least she wants to head it off at the pass.

If she runs for President on this platform, she might carry New York.

And Massachusetts (remember Ted swims :-))

Didn't he pull off some big oil deal with a foreign country?

Don't recall that, but I do remember him doing the guidance systems and MIRV nuclear warhead deal with a foreign country.

Trying to raise the speed limit on the West Texas interstates to 80 mph from 70 mph. The two-lane state and federal highways in the area are already 75 mph so you can go faster on the two lane roads. I travel them all the time -- set speed control to 80 and try to listen to talk radio. Two lane roads in other parts of Texas are 70 mph.

Isn't that some tortured syntax? Takes work to do that. Figure that nobody will accept it as a premise and the sentence starts to make sense. It's a classic political rhetorical device - only two choices are possible, and both false, but be sure to pick the "correct" one. Same with anti-tobacco legislation or anything else.

I thought we got rid of the stupid double nickle when the pubs took over in '95.

Hey Hillary, you drive 55 mph. I'll keep up with the traffic flow at about 75 mph.

And trying to slow traffic on highways that are already totally overwhelmed is gonna get a lot more cars through.

Right?

Right, Hitlery?

"The 55-mile speed limit really does lower gas usage.

And it really does increase time spent on the road thus increasing the likelihood of tiredness and accidents.

This idea sure won't go over well in the Red States, but Hillary may not care much about our votes.

Wasn't the 55 limit passed during the Nixon years?

I believe it was passed about '73 or '74 as a result of an Arab oil crisis. I think it was a Nixon abomination.

Actually a 30 mph rate gets the most vehicles past a given point per unit time.

Sure Hill I'll think about it as long as I can put a "Run, Hillary, Run" on my FRONT bumper.
