Monday, May 22, 2006 12:44 a.m. EDT Mel Gibson Slams 'Da Vinci Code'
Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.
"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged about the thriller's controversial plot concerning Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. [Editor's Note: Get NewsMax's special report "The Da Vinci Con" FREE with Ann Coulter's book, "Godless" CLICK HERE NOW!]
Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.
"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."
The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film

This was a joke, right? As if Mel Gibson would ever think of being in this movie! Why that is just downright insulting to even suggest him for the role. The Da Vinci code is from the pit of hell.

A friend of mine saw it and said it's a fictionalized mystery.

I think that is one of the most cogent one-line explanations for the problem with this work of fiction... well done!

They're already licking their chops over Davinci II: Angels and Demons. I can just anticipate the hype over this one.
My husband and I saw it yesterday and as a fictional mystery, we enjoyed it, but we know it is fiction. Wonder how many won't know that?

"The Passion of the Christ" star has been outraged... Mel did not "star" in "The Passion of the Christ."
He produced and directed it.
His hands appeared in a single scene, but that is all.

Didnt have much problem taking liberties with the truth in Braveheart or The Patriot did you? What a hypocrite. Did Mel Gibson slander real people in his movies? The Da Vinci Code tells lies about Christ, Constatine, and slanders many real people of the Catholic Church. Mel at least renamed the people, so not to confuse anyone about what is history and what is not. Dan Brown defends the research and his whacky conspiracy theories he puts out as plausable facts.

I am astonished beyond belief that someone in the film industry doesn't comprehend that fiction relies on a smattering of factual elements to create a good story. Am I supposed to believe that EVERY book and EVERY movie is factual!!?? Am I supposed to believe that Scotty really did beam people up and that Star Wars and Harry Potter are based solely on FACT!!!???
Give me a freakin' break!!!!!

There are a lot of words that can describe the Da Vinci Code. Two of them are "long" and "boring."
