So you think that the Democrats are the answer to your amnesty concerns?

It is Republican Senators who have been proposing amnesty. Do you know that Republican Senators hold the majority in the Senate, and that 60 to 70 percent of Americans are opposed to the Republican Senators' amnesty proposals?

I don't see that the Democrats have anything to do with it. It's a Republican Senatorial betrayal, exclusively.

I wonder if the firing of the CIA leaker had anything to do with Goss' departure.

When discouraged conservatives say they are going to send a message to their R congressman, by a protest vote, because of the weak voting record in Congress of said congressman, I remind them that the most important vote said congressman makes is the vote for Speaker and Majority Leader. After that, it is up to us to tell them what we want, but if they are in the Minority we have NO say.

I think you are spot on...

but I think Patches is more interested in continuing the life of privildge and not having to be accountable...he truly doesn't have a grasp on the idea...

I think he honestly believes he is ABOVE reality.

His family environment has taught him that he is above the law. He is above reproach. All mistakes are covered up- IF they are ever caught. He honestly doesn't fathom that there are things that he cannot BUY or TALK his way out of... like getting hisself killed.....

Not money, nor the Kennedy name will be able to bring him back to life....

it's so sad....

very sad.....

you nailed it with "enabling"

Rush was very compassionate on Friday - hoping that he does get the treatment he needs. Yet the MSM keeps going on and on how what Rush did was sooooooo much worse than what patches did. They would take any chance to bash Rush, but poor widdle baby kennedy did nothing wrong.

If Krsitol isn't finding something to blame on the President, he's not breathing.

I hope he gets clean also. However, it really bothered me that he had a press conference the day he was headed to rehab. He was probably injected with something just to get him through that.

Bill Kristol just said we should expect the CIA to become a mini state department. Everyone being fat and happy.

Krystol thinks something wrong with State Dept? German Chancellor seems to think otherwise.

Hillary Clinton Dissed by Angela Merkel

German chancellor Angela Merkel was here on a two day visit to meet President Bush. Hillary sought to meet with Merkel as a symbol of the power of women in politics. Merkel had other priorities so not interested, declined and met instead the CEOs of General Electric, Monsanto, Hewlett-Packard, Dow Chemical, Siemens and DaimlerChrysler.

Actually, the real two power women, Merkel and Rice met & discussed the real top issue of the day, the threat of a nuclear Iran.

I'm going have to take a peek at MTP just to get a load of Pelosi this morning.

Her right eye starts to melt about halfway through and she looks like she's been told that if she gets anything wrong, her chair is wired and she's going to get such a shock.

Kristol sound angry to me. Kristol said that Goss did what he was charged to do and his reward was to get the boot.

Seems Bill has changed his tune somewhat since Friday

On Friday .. I got the impression that Bill didn't like Goss in the CIA

That's what Bill Kristol just said on Fox News Sunday. He suspects that it is related to the firing.

I love the public service announcements that use humor when suggesting people turn to each other.

There is no reason why folks can't seek out an elder to be sure they're signed up.

It's what real Americans are all about.

From Wikipedia:

Article One of the United States Constitution provides, "The House of Representatives shall chuse [sic] their Speaker and other Officers..." Every Speaker to date has been a member of the House of Representatives, although the Constitution does not explicitly require it. Speakers are elected following each biennial general election, and serve two-year terms.

At the beginning of each new term of Congress (January in each odd-numbered year), the Clerk of the House of Representatives presides over the election of a Speaker. Before the election, the congressional conference of each major party (Democratic or Republican) nominates a candidate; the conference chairman delivers a nomination speech on the day of the election. Thereafter, the Clerk calls the roll of the House; when a member's name is called, he or she verbally announces his or her vote. (Originally, the Speaker was elected by secret ballot; in 1839, however, it decided to adopt the voice vote.) Members are not required to vote for one of the nominees; they may vote for an individual who was not previously nominated, if they please. However, a member who does not vote for his or her party's nominee may be punished by the party leadership, possibly losing committee assignments. Therefore, members very rarely fail to vote for the candidates nominated by their parties.

Once all members have cast their votes, the Clerk announces the result. In order to be elected, a candidate must receive a simple majority of those voting (not necessarily a simple majority of the total membership of the House). If no candidate receives the requisite majority, the House repeats the procedure until a Speaker is elected. Normally, a single call of the roll suffices, and the election is completed on the first day of the session. After announcing the result, the Clerk appoints a committee of members to formally escort the Speaker to the presiding officer's chair. The Speaker is then sworn in by the Dean of the House (the most senior member). The same procedure for election is used if a Speaker dies or resigns.
