A federal jury decided Wednesday al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui deserves life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history, on Sept. 11, 2001.
On the seventh day of deliberation, the jury of nine men and three women informed Judge Leonie Brinkema that it had reached a decision. The verdict was announced at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
Moussaoui, a 37-year-old Frenchman of Moroccan descent, is the only person charged in this country in connection with the suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.
The verdict came after four years of legal maneuvering and a six-week trial that put jurors on an emotional roller coaster.
The panel of northern Virginia residents was shown gruesome never- before-released images of the carnage that day, heard the first public playing of the cockpit recorder from United Flight 93 whose passengers tried to retake the jet over Pennsylvania, and watched and listened as dozens of victims and relatives described the horrors and losses they had endured.
The nine men and three women deliberated about 40 hours. They had found Moussaoui eligible for execution after more than 16 hours of deliberations in late March and early April.
Although he was in jail on immigration violations on Sept. 11, the jury ruled that lies he told federal agents the month before the attacks kept the government from identifying and stopping some of the hijackers.
My idea would be to have him in a 12x12 cage with minimum subsistence food and water, and nothing more.
What is sad...He will probably live the "Life of Riley"
in some federal playpen.
"he'll get a prayer rug, halal meals, a koran etc. etc..anyone wanna bet?"
To be sure. And even more. The ACLU and the leftist media will make sure he's treated like the jihadist celebrity he will be for years to come, a continuing thorn in our side. This country is indeed headed down hill at an ever accelerating pace.
May he enjoy a lifetime of anal rape.
Just sad for the people who died and did not have a chance to wake up one more day.. and this ugly piece of garbage... gets to keep living and I am sure become an important figure for the left... for the hate America crowd. And we wonder why we have an invasion going on now?... We don't seem to have the b--- to defend anything anymore.
I am disgusted!
Unless he's released pursuant to some demand by Muslims who have occupied an American embassy and are killing their hostages one by one until he's freed.
On the one hand, I'm pleased that he's denied his martyrdom. On the other, I don't think his sorry carcass should be using up space, air, and food on this planet. Perhaps a better penalty (forever denied because of our alleged "civilized" condition) would be to put him in a burning building with no way for him to escape, and just let the flames and smoke slowly do to him what his compadres did to our people.
How about Michael Moore?
that's coming..you can bet on it..
While I think this guy is a poster boy for the death penalty, in some ways this may be a better sentance. What he wanted was martyrdom ...what he is likely getting is 23 hours alone in a cell every day for the rest of his miserable life ...no 72 virgins for him. I would however hope that he would serve his time in a maximum security federal prison, but in the general population. It would be very fitting to have him being sodomized, beaten and likely knifed.
I am glad he got life. Death would be an easy out. For someone who hates America so much I can think of no worse fate than spending the rest of his miserable life in a tiny cell in an American prison.
"The jurors should be identified and roundly mocked and criticized for their cowardice."
I think they should praised for their standing up to the Government's scapegoating case against M. The Govt' wasxd very, very lucky the crazy guy pleaded guilty because the jury could have easily acquitted him on the charges the Government brought.
He wanted to be killed for what he did.
The jury said "no way, dude. You will live."
Now no jihadist can start blowing crap up in his name. His mission - - to die for Islam - - is a miserable failure. He's not a hero now to his bretheren. He's just a number in the US federal prison system. He will be jailed, silenced, and forgotten. For a psychopath like him, it is a fate worse than the death penalty.
He wouldn't know what to do with them anyway.
Put this POS in the general population in Ft. Leavenworth. Problem solved.
How long before there is a hostage-taking and a demand for the release of Mouusawi?
Yep , he'll be a media darling if they let him .And they will . The news reader TV stars and the leftist NYTs bleeding hearts will be there holding his hand. If it's life in prison then I say put him in with general population . Maybe some Hell's Angels for roomates .Tear him apart where it hurts most.
Since life imprisonment sometimes means something else, is he eligible for parole?
